Hi everyone, Well, just wanted to let everyone know I go in Tuesday for my surgery. Im excited but now Im a nervous wreck I guess Im just worried that with all the diets I have been on all my life that this one wont work either. I know I have to think positive and thats what I have been trying to do, so why am I thinking like this Now when my day is almost here? I couldnt wait for this day to come and here it is and I want to go hide somewhere. Well, I went shopping and got my liquids for when I get home. SF jello, SF ice pops, Chicken broth, beef broth and also my vitamins. If anyone can tell me anything else I might need please dont hesitate. I can use all your help right now. Thank You to all my OH friends. You have all been great! Denise

You will be fine Denise, and yes, this will work for you. It is normal to think it won't work for you, as that is what we all felt at one time, but the good news is that it works in spite of you!!! I don't know what kind of diet your dr has you on after surgery, but we were allowed to eat anything that was able to be pureed to the consistency of applesauce, so I had grits, oatmeal and a good ole friend was refried beans, and ricotta cheese, and cottage cheese, and SF jelly to mix in the cottage cheese. Of course I added warm water to the beans to make it soupy and bits of fat free cheese and it would melt. The ricotta cheese you can add a splash of pizza quick sauce, as it had the lowest sugar and then bits of FF mozerella and pop it in the microwave, and it tasted like lasagna sort of. Just get creative and put protein first and you will do fine. The one thing that really helped me with my protein was "AnyWhey" protein powder, and I mixed it with drinkable yogurt, Dannon Light n Fit Carb control and sugar free, it had like 3 gms of sugar and 6 gms of protein and you mix it together with some ANY WHEY and it gave a great protein drink. www.profect.com is great, it is 3oz of 25gms of protein. A little sour, but better than others I found. SF puddings are great and add protein powder to it too. I always added protein powder, because if it went in my mouth, it had protein in it. Also, Propel is a really good drink after surgery, and you can mix it in your magic bullet blender with ice, and it felt great going down my pouch. Take your vitamins everytime you eat something, did you get good ones made for bariatric patients?? I only took Vista Vitamins from day 1, and I have NEVER EVER had low blood levels on anything at all, and that included when I had surgery for bile duct that was clogged and also plastics last month. Remember, God did not bring you this far to let you go back, and you will do great!! He is with you and won't let you fail!! Put your faith in God, and any fear will fade away! God Bless, and Good Luck!!! Deb

I just want to wish you the best with your surgery Tuesday. It is normal to be excited yet nervous at the same time, I don't think there is a person out there that didn't feel that way. I am over two months post-op and I still have the fear of it not working, even though I am losing weight and inches. I think I expected it to all come off in a couple of months time and it just won't happen like that, so you have to have lots of patience. It's funny how we get conditioned to dieting and failing over and over and how we want everything to work yesterday. As far as buying stuff for when you get home, don't make the same misstake I made and buy a lot of things. I found out my taste changed so much in the begining that everything tasted nasty to me. I got stuck with a bunch of protein mixes, broths, SF jello, etc. that I couldn't get past my nose much less to my mouth. Yes, your taste change's so what you like now you might find taste like YUK afterwards. Anyway, just try to relax, enjoy tomorrow, and know that your on the way to a whole new you, it's so exciting seeing something finally work. Take care and my prayers will be with you Tuesday. Mary

Hi Mary, Thank you, thank you, for all your advice. I am feeling alot better already from all the great posts I have gotten back. This is truly a great place to meet friends and get good advice from people who have been there. I have heard from so many others how they get home after surgery and just start cooking dinner for their family and its like they never had surgery. ( I should be so lucky) Thank you Mary for your prayers and I will make sure to keep you posted when I get home. Denise

Do you go to a support group? I am having surgery in a few weeks and I have all sorts of feelings going on inside too. I have found that without a support group and the friends made, that I probably wouldn't be able to do it. I too have felt like why would this one work when all of the other haven't. But I know in my heart that if God brings you to this point, he will see you on the other side. See ya on the loosers bench, and save a spot for me. Deb G

Denise I know for me I was nervous about failing too. I think it is for almost everyone if not everyone. BUT the good news is you will lose and you will get through this. Glad you are taking Deb Shulers advice....she has good advise as she reads up on everything. Do as your Dr. advises. I didn't get pureed foods for a couple weeks. I only had clear liquids then full liquids then pureed. But every Dr is different and has different rules. Listen to yours and you will do well. I lived on SF popsicles from Walmart. I still love FF cottage cheese w/SF jam also from Walmart...sooo yummy and creamy and sweet. I do flavored water Propel but dilute it 1/2 qnd 1/2 as strong flavors in water turn me off now. At first I diluted even my crystal light because it tasted strong. You will find out tastes change with WLS but do not get discouraged...try different things but do not spend lots of money getting lots of anything until you see how your tastes change. I will be praying for you and your surgery. God bless you Denise and you willllllll lose! I am scooting over now to make room for you...soon to be loser! In Christ's love, Joan M
