does protein make for faster loss??
I haven't been drinking any protein shakes or anything until today. I'm 10 weeks out and i've lost 35 pounds. I feel that I'm going to be a slow loser and was wondering how I could speed it up a little. I'm drinking my water, walking 2 miles a day, not eating anything i'm not supposed to have, trying to do everything right. I know I'm probably not getting in enough protein, it's hard to get in that much just through food, so I took out a sample of powder that someone gave me at Kathy's house that night we all got together. It wasn't too bad, so I'm going to buy me some powders. I just wasn't sure if more protein equals faster weight loss or not.

Yes, sort of. By keeping your protein intake above 60gms a day, or so. You can prevent the loss of lean muscle tissue. The more muscle you have, the higher your resting metabolic rate. Thats the condensed version. You should add some resistance exercises to your walking routine. Research has shown that even a small effort can have big results.
Yes, yes, yes.....Like Eddie said. You have gotta keep your protein up, and you really can't get it all from food. It might help to keep a journal (note to self.....start keeping a journal!!), so you can see what works and what doesn't. You would probably be surprised at just how much or how little that you are taking in. But it sounds like you are doing great on the water and walking!!!
Hugs,
Dianne

I had been looking at that protein powder in the cabinet every time I opened the door thinking "i've got to start drinking that stuff", but just putting it off. And you know, it wasn't too bad. I've heard all the horror stories about how bad protein tastes so i was dreading it. I love the protein bars I've been eating but they fill me up, its all i can do to finish one. I bought me a 5 pound weight that I've been working my arms with while I'm sitting around watching tv, but I know i've got to get my butt in the floor and start doing some more exercises. I just don't feel comfortable yet going to the YMCA or anywhere. Maybe curves will be my next step. I went there before surgery and liked it pretty good. Thanks you guys for the education in proteins, guess I wasn't listening close enough in nutrition class.
Hep!!!!
I use Protein Powders each day. And Protein Puddings.
I have a Protein drink for atleast 2 meals a day, along with a Protein Pudding of about 4 oz's a day. (two 4oz. servings.) Lots of String cheese, strong veggies and egg substitutes. I've lost 91 pounds in 4 1/2 months. (Stalling now though.) But the Protein Supplements along with the selected choices of foods really work.

YUP ... PROTEIN & FLUIDS ARE THE 2 ITEMS THAT CAN HELP YOU LOSE MORE WEIGHT FASTER (EXERCISE BEING THE ACTION THAT CAN HELP) ... BELOW, YOU WILL FIND HOW MUCH PROTEIN YOU SHOULD BE EATING EACH DAY JUST FOR GOOD HEALTH ... THEN, ADD ANOTHER 25% TO BOOST YOUR WEIGHT LOSS SO MOST LADIES WOULD BE LOOKING AT ABOUT 100 GRAMS A DAY TO REALLY BOOST THEIR PROGRESS ... THE MORE WATER-BASED FLUIDS YOU CAN DRINK (WATER, CRYSTAL LITE, MINUTE MAID LITE, ETC), THE MORE YOU WILL CLEANSE & DETOXIFY YOUR SYSTEM, FLUSHING OUT THE FATS AS WELL AS THE TOXINS.
Divide your IDEAL WEIGHT (realistic goal weight) by 2.2 to convert pounds to kilos and then multiply this number by 1.25 grams per kilo.
MY IDEAL WEIGHT IS 126 / 2.2 = 57.2727... x 1.25 = 71.59 GRAMS OF PROTEIN A DAY FOR ME PERSONALLY.
GO TO MY PROFILE ABOUT A QUARTER OF THE WAY DOWN TO THE TITLE OF "FOOD, FOOD, FOOD" ... I HAVE A TON OF INFO ABOUT DIFFERENT PROTEIN ITEMS YOU CAN TRY.
OTHER THAN THAT, SOME OF US ARE JUST SLOW LOSERS (I'M ONE) SO, SOMETIMES WE DO EVERYTHING RIGHT & ARE STILL SLOWER THAN OTHER PEOPLE ... NO BIGGIE ... WE STILL CONTINUE LOSING UNTIL WE SEE THE BIG NUMBERS, JUST AT A SLOWER PACE (CHECK OUT MY PREVIOUS POSTS THAT I POSTED TODAY ... I WROTE ABOUT THIS TO 2 OTHER LADIES).
KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON, GIRL! YOU CAN'T FAIL!
GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICk
It certainly does with me. If my protein is over 100gms per day, I am losing much, much faster!! I can usually see a pound a day difference when my protein is high.
DRINK UP
I use www.profect.com
plus food.

I bought the chocolate whey protein powder at wal-mart and it's really pretty good. I have been using 16 oz. milk with 3 scoops powder which gives me 69 grams of protein all at once. Using more of the powder doesn't make it taste any different. If you don't have one, buy a shaker cup (Dollar tree has them). They do better if they are shaken instead of stirring them. I had been using the premixed in the can but I like this powder better. I didn't think that I would. Hope this helps!!!
They have the vanilla too. Somebody said to put peanut butter in it and it was good.
TRY HOOD CARB COUNTDOWN MILK BEVERAGE (2%, FAT-FREE & CHOCOLATE) FROM WAL*MART (in a green, blue or brown 1/2 gallon carton depending on the type). THE CARBS ARE CUT WHICH IS GREAT FOR GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENTS BUT THEY STILL TASTE JUST LIKE REGULAR MILK PRODUCTS. JUST ANOTHER WAY TO CUT THE CARBS.
ALTHOUGH USING MORE PROTEIN AT ONE TIME SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT SHORTCUT, YOU'RE ACTUALLY JUST WASTING PROTEIN & MONEY, MS DONNA. YOUR BODY CAN ONLY ABSORB AROUND 25-30 GRAMS OF PROTEIN AT A TIME. THAT'S WHY EATING 4-6 SNACKS/SMALL MEALS A DAY IS SO BENEFICIAL ... YOU GET ENOUGH PROTEIN THROUGHTOUT THE DAY, KEEPING YOUR CALORIES UNDER CONTROL & KEEPING YOUR BLOOD SUGARS LEVEL & BALANCED.
YOU CAN ALSO ADD SF PUDDING TO MAKE MORE LIKE A FROSTY. MS BARBARA HAS A RECIPIE SHE HAS MADE UP FOR THAT WITH HER SHAKES.
GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICk
