INVISIBLE ENEMIES PT1
Invisible enemies
life has a way of throwing us curveballs when we least expect them. It can happen to any one of us, at any time. A bad day, a family crisis, a problem on the job or at school...
It's so easy to turn to food in the hope of finding solace and comfort. But that just creates another problem. While eating May take your mind off your problem temporarily, you'll eventually have to deal with the consequences of overeating. And you'll still ahve to deal with the situation that made you overeat in the first place.
But wait-all is not lost.
There are things you can do to deal with unexpected situations. They're called coping strategies, and they work. Read about them now, then put them into use the next time a crisis comes to call on you.
Put the problem into perspective.
Are you the first person on earth ever to face this problem? It's doubtful. Will things inprove? Chances are theey will. So don't make the situation worse by overreacting.
Stay calm and relaxed.
Yes, we know it's hard to do . But it's important to remain calm and to try to separate yourself from the situation, instead of rushing into action. Resist the urge to eat by taking a few deep breaths or even by having a good cry. Once you're calm and you can collect your thoughts, you'll have an easire time deciding how to proceed without using food to help you cope.
Be flexible.
Learn to "roll with the punches." just as you adjust the way you steer your car on a slippery road, you May have to adjust your plans to deal with the situation at hand. Having the ability to do this May make copping with the crisis easier.
Take control.
Refuse to be a victim. This positive mind-set will help you deal with the crisis and keep your eating under control. If, however, you feel that you just can't handle everything on your own, delegate some of the responsibility to others.
Eat if necassary.
Just be sure you know what your're eating and why. Choose something that fits into the food plan.
Good luck and we can do this together.
