Blue Dye Test???

Has anyone had a blue dye test after RNY surgery? My surgeon did not do one but my family doctor said I should've had one. What's the thoughts on this ?

Kay, every surgeon is so different with the techniques and procedures re: this surgery. My surgeon, Dr. Byrne at musc required a barium swallow on the first post-op day. This is done to see if there are any leaks before they start you on a liquid diet. Donna, sfy

Again, I have addressed this in my profile, but Dr Byrne does a double test in which he uses a scope down your throat with fluids injected into your pouch while his assistant uses the camera that is already in your abdomen to see if there is leakage from the outside ... So, instead of only looking outside to see if the blue dye is leaking, Dr Byrne checks to see if anything is amiss inside as well as outside your pouch at the same time. God bless you ... I have no idea about this test, and did not know what the heck it was, but I can say that I knew he double tested us. He is simply an amazing surgeon, and really saved my life 2x!! The first was he was able to do my surgery after I had a lap nissen on my stomach for acid reflux before, and he could unwrap it and then did the gastric bypass all by lap. I still cannot believe he could do it, as only 2 doctors out of 400 said they would have done my surgery, but I am sooo glad I chose him. My gastric doctor here in CA is top rated for lap rny's in the world, really, Dr. Byrne knew of him and also told me about his ranking, and Dr. Byrne is like 3 or 4 in the world for RNY's. I just love Dr. Byrne, and he is just THE best in my opinion Who did you choose for your surgeon?? Once you get to know him, and he gets to know you, he is sooo easy to get along with...esp. if you do what he says. He seems hard and cross sometimes, but he really an old softie The first time I met him, he scared the pee out of me!! Best wishes for your surgery and the new you in the new year!!!
