Hi all, Just wanted to let you know I had Lap RNY on Monday and got home from the hospital yesterday. No complications or anything so I feel lucky in that respect. Since I've had this surgery, I have a general feeling of yuckiness. But because I have never been "under the knife" before, I don't know how much of my yuckiness is the anethesia or the surgery itself, and how much is because of what I have had done to my body. How long does it take to start feeling back to normal? I haven't been able to eat a lot or drink a lot and get nauseous very easily. I had a Profect today and some milk but that's about most of the protein I've had today. And I'm thirsty all the time but only for water or milk. Other than that, I've been doing okay. I'm up and around some (probably not enough), took a shower, etc. I just want to feel back to normal. Does everyone have this feeling after surgery? Susan

Welcome Home!! Praying for your speedy recovery! Glad you are home and feeling "better" Firs****ch the milk, the lactose will be okay for a day or 2, then all of a sudden, you will dump (probably) from it like crazy. I used Carb Countdown milk from Hoods, and I still sometimes dumped?? You just gotta be careful, even on skim I dumped. Do what they suggested, puree yourself some protein. The first few days I think I did grits and cream of wheat and the soupy mashed potatoes with Any Whey protein powder in it and my hubby would bring me 2-3 oz every 3 hrs to make sure I had some protein. I actually could eat pretty well after surgery, so I had no troubles eating that as long as it was runny. I also added protein powder to SF puddings and could not eat it all. We put some tuna in the magic bullet blender, and added a touch of tuna salad maker and it was a lot of protein. I liked it. Was craving lettuce, but you gotta wait a few months for that. I also would make some refried beans with warm water and cheese for something warm. Boullions and broths did not sit on my stomach, soups either. I did make some mock lasagna.....get some Ricotta Cheese, put a splash of Pizza Quick Sauce on it (its the lowest sugar) and then bits of skim mozerella cheese and pop in the microwave for 20 seconds and it does feel good on your pouch and tastes like lasgna or pizza. I think the first month I did add protein powder to it. Get the "Any Whey" protein powder, its the best and totally dissolvable and tasteless like it says. Good Luck!! Walk as much as you can, it will help...I think you have anesthesia aftershock going on Deb

Glad to hear all went so well, Susan! I felt great right after surgery, so I'm no help. lol I've heard many different time frames...some say 2 weeks, some say a month, 2 months...etc. It's individual, I think. No one says longer than 3 months though. I was fine with milk and broths...no dumping...still haven't dumped, and I am about 5 months out. Just take it slow...sip, sip, sip...and just get in what you can. The first couple weeks should be more concentration on just getting fluids in, not just protein. It is most important to stay hydrated. Praying you are feeling back to normal SOON! Hugs, Elizabeth

Hi Susan, I'm so glad everything turned out ok. I'm so sorry you are not feeling well. I hope the yucky feeling goes away soon. Stay encouraged, this first month (from what I hear) is pretty much the last really hard stage in this whole journey. You're almost there, push through. Keep in touch and let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Robin
