I know this sounds strange, but here goes: Has anyone ever developed a skin rash that was linked to obesity? I have something on my lower calves above the ankle. I'm going to the dermatologist, but just wondered if anyone heard of such a thing... Thanks to whoever answers!!

I get rosacia in the winter on my cheeks. I have gotten small red spots on my back and on my stomach before, had the one on my back biopsied and it just came back as nothing, but I know it had to be a reaction to something. Either the shampoo or now I am thinking perhaps something I ate and still have no clue about. I also used to get boils really bad. I don't know if you know about those but they are weight related and heat related. My mom who is overweight has had them on her panty line, that was awful because I of course had to help her try and get the yucky stuff out of it. I have had them on my hand and my back. The one I had on my back...I had to get a drain put in it after it was cut open. I felt like a hump backed whale and that was over 10 years ago. Goodluck. Let us know how it turns out. Jennifer

Thank-you, Dr. Schlesinger (dermatologist extraordinaire)! I have: STASIS DERMATITIS. From WebMD: "Stasis dermatitis is caused by poor circulation and can happen in people with varicose veins, congestive heart failure, or other conditions. Veins in the lower legs fail to return blood efficiently, causing pooling of blood and fluid buildup and edema. This leads to unhealthy skin growth and irritation, especially around the ankles." It can definitely be linked to obesity (swelling, poor circulation, edema), so when I asked if he would contribute to my "portfolio" for the insurance company, he agreed without hesitation. In the meantime, I have a steroid salve & have been fitted for custom made thigh-high support stockings (this should be a reallllll trip!). Thanks to those who answered & if anyone needs a good skin doc - check Dr. Todd Schlesinger out (he's in the East wing of Xavier St. Francis in West Ashley).
