Should I try it?

I found some protein bars on here that I had in the past and I really liked them. However they had like 8-10g of sugar. I know this is pushing the limit but I wondered if you people can tolerate 8-10g of sugar. The calories in the bars were under 200 and they had 15 grams of sugar. Rachel

I can't tolerate that much real sugar, but I can tolerate that in sugar alcohols. Anything above 13 grams in sugar alcohols make me nauseous. The guideline I was given for protien bars was no more than 180-200 calories, at least 15 grams of protien, and no more than 15 grams of sugar and sugar alcohols combined. Michelle recommended that I stay away from anything with more than 10 grams of sugar or sugar alcohols seperately. SOOOO, if it is real sugar, I would stay away. If it is all sugar alcohol, I would be careful. You never know how you are going to react until you try them. There are some people on the March board that can't tolerate more than 2 grams of EITHER. They can't even eat fruit. If you can, just buy ONE and see what happens. Its all trial and error after surgery. Kathy

I meant 15 grams of PROTIEN!!!! Not SUGAR!!! They are all in the 8-10 g of real sugar range. They are low (1-2g of sugar alch.). What is the most real sugar you have tolerated??? Rachel

Real sugar - Probably 7 grams. That is in my 4 oz. of the Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal plus skim milk which also has all the fiber and protien in it. Even the couple of tootsie rolls I snuck a while back had less sugar than that! Everyone is different. I say try them. Its always good when you find a good protien source that you like. Kathy

What kind of bars are they? I tried some (I can't remember which, I should look for them) that had a good deal of sugar (I realized after I'd eaten one!) but it didn't bother me. I agree, trial and error is all you can do. I'd try half of one, see how it goes, and go from there. Lisa

Trial and error! Don't know until you try. I can handle 8g of sugar with no problems. Hugs, Elizabeth

my limit is 5 and below, 6-7 pu**** for me. I am now 14mos post and I still cannot eat over 5-6gms per serving, its too much insulin dumping. Try the power crunch and only eat 1/2 at a time and you can maybe eat only 1/2 of yours and then the next day you can eat the other half.....but your body will tell you anyway what you can do Glad to know you are doing so well!!
