I am looking for suggestions for a doctor that would be good at helping me with dieting. I have Medicaid and they require 6 months of doctor monitored dieting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If there is anyone else who has had recent success with Medicaid, please let me know what I can do to better my situation.

MUSC's Institute of Psychiatry (IOP) has a weight management center on the fourth floor. It is run by a doc who comes to our support meeting sometime. I dunno anything about Medicaid, or if they would cover them, but thought I'd throw it out there. Michelle

Thank you for the response. I greatly appreciate it. I definitely need to do something soon. I walked up three flights of stairs yesterday nice and slow so I wouldn't out of breath and I ended up doing that anyway. I was catching my breath before I finished the last flight!

Almost forgot...yes, MUSC is the BEST for everything around here. They have a diet program connected with their surgery program.

Dr. Byrne has a 6 month program for people who need that for their insurance companies. Just call Amanda Budak or email her and she will explain it to you. [email protected] Good Luck and welcome!! Deb

Hey Hun, I actually found away around paying all that money for the physician assisted weight loss program (they can often lead into hundreds of dollars). Simply visit your primary care physician every month for 6 mths. Make sure you are weighed during the visit and that you tell the doctor you are concerned about your weight. Even if you go to the doctor for a reason other than your weight, get weighed and ask the doctor how you can help yourself loose weight. After the 6th month express to your primary care doctor that you would like to have gastric bypass and ask him/her to write you a letter of recommendation and give you a copy of the last 6 mths visits progress notes. I learned that tidbit from a lady my sister works with in VA who did just that. It works. I wish you all the best. Robin

Thank you very much for that bit of information. Right now I don't even have a primary care physician. I was discharged from my last doctor because when I got sick, I wasn't able to pay my bill. I have to find another doctor now. Any suggestions on a good primary care doctor?
