Insurance suggestions..

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of SC and was reading the benefit guide and it clear say they do not cover any of the wieght loss sugeries. I have not summitted a claim yet, but judge from the guide they are going to deny me. Has anyone here delt with BCBS of SC and was approved for the surgery. Also once I summit my claim and if denioed do anymone have any suggests or alternative routes to getting approved. If so please share your thoughts and expriences. Thanks Marek.

I am afraid it's bad news. The state insurance under no cir****tance will cover WLS. Tons have tried and they stay true to their word. I too work for the state but I am covered under my husband's insurance for the simple reason that I wanted to have the surgery and it would cover it at 100%. I wish you the best in your journey. I know there are many state employees that are upset about this. Maybe if enough of you get together, you might get things changed. Best of luck.. Rachel

You may want to contact Amanda Budak at MUSC, she is the program coordinator at MUSC. Rachel is probably right, but I thought I remembered they were approving them with a 6 month supervised diet....but I may be wrong. I know we were working on papers to put up to the Senate, and I had gotten a response back from several senators and they said it would be covered, so it was under certain categories as Centers o Excellence, which MUSC is. I think the one in Lexington might be as well, or on its way to becoming one. I have not stayed up on it since we moved a couple o months ago, but myself and Amanda were working on fighting it at the state level. u have the same ins. as me.. and nope im sorry there is nothing u can do.. i appealed twice, denied.. my dad weighs 550 and was denied.. there is no loophole around the written exclusion.. sorry !!!!! Jen
