Hi Joan! Wow, 9 years! That is awesome! I homeschool my daughter in K3, and my son in 3rd grade. It is a lot of work, but I love being so involved and in control of what my kids are learning. Do you use a specific curriculum, or do you put your own together? This is my 3rd year, and I have used ABeka every year, mainly because I have taught it before in a private school, and I am familiar with it! But this year was the first time I broke away and did something else for reading. I really like the study guides from www.progenypress.com. I would be interested to hear about how you homeschool, so feel free to email me anytime! I think you can email me from my profile or surgery support page...somewhere in there. lol Congrats on YOUR century mark!!! WOOHOO!! Each day is such a blessing to be alive! Blessings, Elizabeth

I like those sugar free meringue cookies ... but they're not the same as divinity. Divinity is a candy, made by boiling sugar, water, and corn syrup until it reaches a hard crack stage, and then slowly pouring it over stiffly beaten egg whites, beating it until it reaches the magic moment, and then dropping by spoonfuls onto wax paper to cool. It ends up nowhere near as hard and crunchy as the meringues, and is LOTS sweeter. Maybe I'll try to use those meringes as a substitute this year! Dawn (aka Miss Sweet Tooth)

Sorry. Around my house, the "making of the divinity" day is second only to Christmas morning in the way it is looked forward to. (That is horrible grammar, please forgive! LOL) I have wondered a bit about the whole holiday/food issue thing too. My entire family gathers at my house every year, and I've got a bit of a reputation for overdoing it, making sure there is variety and quantity galore. At Christmas, the dining room table is usually loaded down with tins of candies and cookies, and there are always at least 3 cakes to choose from. (No wonder I'm always exhausted in December!) This year, I will definitely be simplifying the whole affair. I'm sure there will still be treats available for those who want them ... but there won't be a table-full. The focus for me, this year, will be showing my love to my family in other ways. Instead of cooking and feeding them 24/7, I will be spending time with them: playing games, listening, laughing, watching a movie, maybe even taking a walk! I'm really looking forward to the changes!
