Hi everyone,
Just wanted to post for the first time and say that I have a surgery date set for RNY on December 7th and boy am I nervous. I am very excited about it except scared about the arranging of the stomach anatomy LOL. I was hoping to hear from others and get some support as to what to expect the day of and after. How long out of work, how long it takes to get in all the water need....ect...
Hope to hear from you'all soon :0)

Hi Christi!
CONGRATS on your very exciting 12/7 date! We all understand how totally thrilled and, at the same time, NERVOUS you are feeling ... it's a life-changing event, for sure!
On the day of surgery, you can expect to sleep, and push your pain meds button, and maybe take a walk around the halls of the hospital. The day after, will be more of the same plus, depending on your surgeon's standard procedure, a leak test and then something to sip.
There is a TON of info on this website, and if you ask questions on this message board, you'll get many different answers from the best folks all over SC. Of course, it's always expected that you will follow your own surgeon's instructions. But everybody here is more than happy to share hints and tips, and support you so that you won't EVER feel as though you're walking this path alone.
Congratuations!!!
Dawn

Congrats Christi on your surgery date. I ditto what Dawn said about the day of and after surgery. Just enjoy your drugs!!! They are great. I am 2 weeks post op as of yesterday and I went back to work this Monday. So I was out for a little less than 2 weeks. I am able to get in all my water and have been since a few days out of surgery. I can drink normally now. Liquids just float on through!! The worst part for me was the Protein
I couldn't handle ANY of the clear protein and didn't get any in my first week. After my 2nd week when I went on full liquids I was able to get in a lot more!! That made a huge difference in how I felt. I feel pretty normal back at work. Not to tired...no more than I was before the surgery. Well, best wishes to you and ask any questions you have as you prepare for this journey!
Rachel

Congratulations! It is normal to be nervous and excited and scared, because you've made a really big decision to rearrange your body and about how you're going to live the rest of your life, but I have yet to meet anyone who has had the surgery who wouldn't do it again. Trust your doctor. He knows what he's doing. I'm almost 2 years out, and it is the best thing I've ever done for myself. You have to look at this surgery and recovery period as a stage of the journey that you have to pass through. It will go by relatively quickly. It will take some time to adjust to your new way of eating, but before you know it, it will all come naturally to you. It will be much easier on you if you try not to fight it. If something doesn't work, try something else. Jump on the board and ask for help. Don't get discouraged. Having a positive attitude is half the battle. To get your fluids in-sip, sip, sip. Take baby steps. I had my surgery about the same time of year as you. The first week, my biggest goals were to get my fluids in and to stay warm. Pamper yourself. Rest and let your body recover and adjust. Your pouch is swollen and angry at first. It will get better every day.
There are so many options available to us food-wise. Buy sample-sized portions of new products when possible. Everybody's tastes are different, so even if someone else recommends something, it might not work for you. You'll find so much support from this group. Just be gentle and forgiving with yourself. Listen to your body. It will be sending you new signals and reacting differently to food. Don't try to rush things. Follow your doctor's orders. Most of all, enjoy the new smaller, healthier you!! You're going to do great!!
Love, B

Christi,
I was scared to death right before, as it got closer, but then I thought if they cancelled my surgery how would I feel?? MAD!!! I finally prayed, and God said to me "You can feed your faith or you can feed your fear" I then researched it and you know....Fear cannot exist if you have faith, fear has to leave.
I will pray for you, because this is the best thing you could ever do for yourself. I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!
The surgery and recovery itself was easy, but the hard part is now, 1 year out and trying to stay on track...exercising, eating right, hunger, living!!
You will do great, and stay posting and read all the journals...it will help!
God Bless, its so exciting for you now!!!
Deb

Thank you all soooo much for your words of encouragement. I really appreciate all that was said. I am very excited. Just trying to get over the fear part. I am trying to stay focused on the GOOD that is going to come out of this surgery for me. Also, has anyone ever had a filter prior to surgery? I am going to have a filter put in on December 1st and was also wondering how that is. This site has been so helpful and encouraging for me. Thank you all agian for your words and prayers.
