No chapstick. At least not until after your leak test. I didn't even need mine. My lips were not chapped or dry. My mouth wasn't even dry. I don't know why. I think it may have been how pumped full of IV fluids they keep you.
I didn't use anything I took except for my toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, hairbrush, clean undies and house shoes. I wore the same clothes home as the ones I wore there. My surgery was early in the AM.
I ended up using their gowns. I also used 2. For the most part I stayed pretty drugged up and I actually don't remember much of my first day there. I think I slept right through it.
I am still sooo excited for you!

DON'T FORGET YOUR INSURANCE CARD, PICTURE ID (MILITARY ID IF NEEDED) & IF YOU USE A C-PAP MACHINE, TAKE IT BECAUSE IT IS REGULATED TO YOUR NEEDS. IF YOU USE ANY OTHER MEDICAL APPLIANCES LIKE A CANE, BE SURE TO TAKE THOSE.
CALL AHEAD & FIND OUT IF THEY WILL SUPPLY YOUR NECESSARY DAILY MEDS OR IF YOU NEED TO BRING YOURS FROM HOME ... IN ANY CASE, TAKE A LIST OF YOUR DAILY MEDS, SUPPLEMENTS & OTC DRUGS WITH THE DOSES & STRENGTHS.
ALSO TAKE FEMININE PRODUCTS AS YOU SOMETIMES START YOUR PERIOD AFTER SURGERY.
I TOOK A PORTABLE CD PLAYER & SOME RELAXING CDs ... GREAT WHEN NICK WANTED TO WATCH SPORTS. WE TOOK A CAMERA FOR THE DREADED POST-SURGERY PICS.
SINCE NICK STAYED WITH ME THE WHOLE TIME, WE TOOK HIS PILLOW.
I DID TAKE A HEAVY HOUSECOAT & AM REALLY HAPPY I DID AS AFTER SURGERY, I WENT FROM SWEATING TO FREEZING IN A NANO-SECOND.
FORGET THE PJs ... THE GOWNS ARE COMFY & THE BACKSIDE BREEZE CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF WITH A SECOND GOWN. I WORE WHAT I CAME TO THE HOSPITAL WHEN I WAS DISCHARGED, BUT I DID HAVE EXTRA PANTIES. FORGET EXTRA BRAS ... YOU WON'T WANT ANYTHING TIGHT AROUND YOUR BODY.
ACTUALLY, THE LESS YOU TAKE, THE BETTER ... SLEEPING & WALKING WILL BE YOUR ONLY PRIORITIES.
CONGRATS & GOD BLESS YOU ... DAWN & NICK
WOW! Three and a half more days to go and you will be on your way to a slim, trim hottie, lol! I will be thinking about you all day Tuesday and praying that everything goes great. I wish you the best and I will try to get to the hospital to see you before you go home. If you need anything or just need to talk you can call me anytime.
As far as what to pack to take to the hospital, I would take as little as possible. I'm sure the first day you won't care how you look and will probably
a lot that day. Since you will have an IV, it might be best to use the hosptials "designer" gowns and just bring your robe or you can even put another gown on backwards and use it as a robe. Most of the time the hospital gives you soap and shampoo so if you don't want to pack a bunch of stuff just use what they give you. You probably won't need panties the first day because of the catheter, but bring some extras for when they take it out. I always tend to take more than I need but this time I'm taking as little as possible. I do plan on taking my laptop
so I can hopefully make a post on here after my surgery. Anyway, take care and I hope to make it to the meeting Monday since I was sick this past week and couldn't go. I hope your there so we can see you.
Mary
