What to eat?
I am 4 weeks out of surgery and my doctor says I can start solids. Well I tried refired beans, bake potatoe and ground beef. Needless to say none of those things worked. I was in so much pain! Any suggestions on what to eat? I am so sick of soup, yogurt and pudding! Any help or idea would be GREATLY appreciated!
Hi Susan,
So sorry to hear you're having pain ...
Meat is sometimes quite difficult to get down at first ... make sure it's tender, and moist ... use broth or gravy to help. Take the tiniest of bites ... and chew them to almost liquid consistency. Try an egg ... soft-scrambled, or over easy with the yolk still runny, if you like that. Cheese is sometimes easier to eat than meat at first ... string cheese always goes down well. At first, I would melt it in the microwave on a plate ... just until it is soft ... and then eat it with a fork. Deli meat wrapped around a slice of cheese was an early favorite for me, too.
It may take a few days, but if you are eating tiny bites, and chew chew chewing ... your pain will probably disappear. Your pouch is still brand new, and the first "real" foods to hit it are a shock!
And if it doesn't get better ... you know the drill: Call your surgeon and let him know!

Try some of the Lean Cuisine Carb meals (meat and veggie)....sometimes they are easier to eat than home cooked foods and restaurant foods, cause of the moisture. Baked fish is another soft solid. Pasta-less lasagna....use zuchini or eggplant in place of the lasagna layers. Hard boiled egg whites...toss the yolk its bad for ya. Cottage cheese mixed with salsa and tuna fish. Yep I am weird
. Fat free cheeses. Lunch meat, go for low sodium though.
