Supplements

Hello All, Question; Do we (Dr Byrnes patients) have to take the supplements (Calcium, B-12, Multi-Vitamin) for "ever" or is there a stopping point for these? I had intended to ask today at my appointmnet but forgot! Thanks! Michael

Every person who has the RNY should supplement nutrients for life. We've lost about 1/2 the receptors that can accept and transfer the nutrients into our blood stream and since food spends even less time in the bowel - and 1/2 the receptors...well umm yeah supplement for life

Michael, Yes, you do!! You will be bypassed forever, so yes, you need to supplement forever! Instead of taking multi supplements, pay a little bit more, or less depending what you buy and get Vista Vitamins. They are chewable and capsule form so you can graduate as needed. You only need these vitamins as they are all inclusive and my bloodwork with Dr. Byrne has been great and perfect since day 1 You can google them which is what I do, or you can buy them off of bariatriceating.com, but I don't like supporting Susan Maria's causes or her business...personal, but I found them cheaper anyway buying them directly from Vista. DEB, FIRST THANKS FOR THE ADVISE. MY QUESTION TO YOU RE: SUPPLEMENTS IS THIS: DO YOU ALSO TAKE THE CALCIUM W/ YOUR VISTA VITAMINS OR IS CALCIUM A COMPONENT OF VISTA VITAMINS. I'LL BE SEEING DR. BRYNE ON 10/2 FOR SECOND CONSULT PRIOR TO SURGERY ON 10/13/06. VERY SCARED, NOT ONLY FOR MYSELF BUT ALSO FOR MY MOM , SHE'S GOING THROUGH A BAD TIME RIGHT NOW. SHE'LL BE SEEING A PULMOONLOGIST ON 9/25 TO RULE OUT A POSSIBLE LESION OR MASS IN HER RIGHT LUNG, THEN SHE MAY BE SCHEDULED FOR A BRONCHOSCOPY SO MY MIND SET IS NOT THE GREATEST AT THIS TIME. I WANT THIS SURGERY BUT I ALSO WANT TO BE HERE FOR HER WHEN SHE NEEDS ME. THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT. DONNA

Michael, Did you order your vitamins? I just took my Vistas!! I am praying for my iron to be good enough during my plastics surgery in December, that I will be able to get breast lift and Lower Body Lift at same time. You will be looking into plastics soon too!! Deb
