New to SC forum - six month post-op
Hi Everyone,
I am new to the SC forum. I had my surgery 3/10/06 at MUSC. The surgery was a piece of cake.
I was amazed at the lack of pain and ease of recovery. I think the nurses at MUSC were even surprised at the little morphine I used.
My big weakness before surgery was ice cream/sugar and not all food. I would not overeat at the dinner table but I would think nothing of having a 1/2 gallon of ice cream in one sitting. I used the sweets to compensate for anything and everything in my life. Food addiction ranks up there I believe with alchololism and drug addiction as far as the effect it has on us. Society though sure doesn't view it in the same way. However I am just coming to realize that it isn't much different but actually worse. You can't live without food! However I am coming to see too that we can tackle it if we take it one day at a time. My son goes to AA and has been clean and sober now for over 3 years I have learned a lot from listening to him. I have also learned that we can't tackle this and keep the weight off without support and that is why I am here. I need you.
So far I have lost a little over 75lbs. I was 250 at the time of surgery. Had problems with blood pressure, high cholesterol, ankles swealing, sleep apenia, etc. I am now off of all medication and no more sleep machine. I find myself suffering from depression (I am on medication) and severe headaches/migraines. I have lately been really sluggish and having a lot of problem with energy but the 6 month forum has given me some great ideas (B-12, more protein, etc.) that I am trying. The migraines are not new but something I have been dealing on and off with for 20 years.. it is just now they seem to be more frequent. I just joined a gym with my husband. Tonight is my first work out. Exercise is something I have been really bad at doing.
Thanks everyone. If you have any advice or questions, let me know.

Welcome Debra!
I found, that I was so set in my fat ways, that it was hard to change,,,, doing things now, that I couldn't as a fat person and wanted to, helped me come out of that shell! There is a brand NEW you and it's time for a Brand new STYLE! Go have some fun! Nature Hikes is one of those things that helped me shake off that humdrum!! Also going to my family reunion helped me! Just getting away to another state for a few days really woke me up! The hike gave me confidence!
It took me nearly 9 months post op to find ME!
I hope you feel better soon!
Best wishes to you!
Janet
