It's going to be a Happy Halloween!

Well, it's official, my surgery will be on October 31. I start optifast on October 3, I hate I have to do it for the full 4 weeks but, thats life! I finally found out at the meeting, after calling numerous times and leaving voice mails and messages that never got returned. I just don't understand why I had such a hard time getting Carmen to call me back. I lucked up that she was in the office when I came for the meeting, and she even showed me the notes that had been left but she never called me back on any of them. All she said was she had been busy and didn't have time to call me So , this gives me plenty of time to get things in order before the surgery. Sorry I didn't get to come to the support meeting, ladies, but my friend from West Virginia was here visiting and we went to eat with him. I plan on being there next Monday, so until then everyone have a great week! Mary

I am confused, and please don't take this the wrong way....but what the heck does your doctor make all you guys do Optifast for? Does he own stock?? Dr. Byrne said it is not worth it, and the bit about it "shrinking your liver" is a farse, as it will not. He said you would have to be on a diet for about 1 yr to shrink your liver. I asked him last year before my surgery from reading so many posts on OH about this and all the pre-op diets I saw. All of his patients actually are told to go have a great meal the night prior to surgery...just no food or water/drink after midnight! I quit eating around 10pm and had a mini snickers as my "last treat". I am just curious why no one has mentioned this to your doctor and questioned him...seems drastic to me....like torture! Isn't that why you are having the surgery? I just hate to see people go through it for no reason (although the only reason I can see would be to get your cravings gone prior to surgery...I had awful head hunger right afterwards). I have no clue as to why we have to drink it other than what you have heard. It's only for two meals a day and you can eat regular food for a third meal. I hope it isn't too bad since I have to do it for four weeks. Take Care! Mary
