Hey! I am new!
i didn't really have energy for a couple of weeks but i did have my gall bladder removed with my rny so i think that had something to do with it. i still got out though. i think it is essential. i am 6 weeks today and feel wonderful. i actually have more energy than before surgery. go get em!!! (just make sure you talk to your doc about getting IN the lake. lots of bacteria so you might want to stick to that boat.)
Your date will be here before you know it. I had my surgery at MUSC also. Dr. Byrne was my surgeon and all was wonderful. I had a reaction to the narcotics, but that isn't really normal. Other than that, things went ok. Suggestion on what to take: I would take flip-flops that can go in the shower. You will have to take a shower or two. Liquid soap might be easier than bar soap. That way you can control it better. I wouldn't have been able to bend to pick up a bar of soap if I had dropped it.
There is NO WAY to look good after surgery, but take something to brush your hair somewhat. Those poor interns come and go all the time. One group Dr. Byrne brought in saw me at my worse and I can only imagine that I scared some of them out of a career in medicine. I have to giggle when I think of that morning.
Someone already suggested a robe with a pocket for your drain. GREAT IDEA! It is annoying when you are up and walking around. You might want to consider a button up shirt to wear home. My insisions were pretty sore and it was uncomfortable to stretch for a few days (over the head shirts were hard to put on and take off).
Good luck! It has been the best decision I ever made.
