Now I see why they start you on protein AFTER you leave the hospital.. So they dont have to hear you whine because it tastes so freaking bad and is UNTOLERABLE completely!.. omg I have never in my life tasted something so awful.. Prostat 64 "natural" flavour, there is NOTHING Natural about it! It was so soo soo disgusting I was gagging and forced it down with water., I will NEVER ever touch that stuff again.. EVER.. it took a grape popsicle to get the taste out of my mouth.. I tried the Unjury unflavored.. in water and crystal lite.. i could still "taste" the protein powder.. I went by Dr Bours office in desperate need of protein because it was all AWFUL.. So I got some Isopure, and put some in 2 oz cups in the freezer and letting them freeze up to try and eat them like italian Ice, since I can stomach popsicles, i hope I can stomach this stuff! Its the Fruit punch flavour.. I got some samples of the pink bottles you add water too and drink, its alot to drink but if its tolerable ill drink it! They should make this protein thing alot easier and tastier.. Now to my emotional state.. Last night was my first night home, and my family came to visit.. Well my husband kids and family needed to eat supper, so I told them to go ahead and get some take out that it wouldnt bother me bc the thought of putting food in my pouch is hurtful! So they got chinese.. well I did alright until i SAW it.. i was like OMG my favorite foods are right there and no matter WHAT i can not eat them! It hit me like a ton of bricks.. "I have altered myself permenantly and there is nothing i can do to change that" .. My friend tried to make me feel better saying "yea when i was on atkins i hated seeing bread" i was like "NO you dont understand, on Atkins YOU CAN CHEAT! You know that you can eat that bread, now, I CANT CHEAT.. I cant eat nothing.. nada.. zilch," lol.. I was crying,, mourning the loss of food. So pathetic I know, but it was very emotional.. Now I woke up this morning with congestion in my chest, which gagged me and had me in the bathroom trying to vomit but couldnt.. and i know this is awful for my new stomach .. Finally it stopped.. Then I tried the Awful protein supplements and My nerves went haywire! I couldnt handle it anymore.. I tried to get online to vent/ask for help and it wouldnt work.. I emailed Patti and bless her heart for posting about me. Then I read about Dawn, and I think, "OMG JENN SHUT UP YOU ARENT GOING THROUGH WHAT SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH GET OVER IT!!!!" I feel so selfish for being upset right now.. and Now even more so with Dawn having ANOTHER problem!!!! I love her and pray God heals her body and soul! Well.. I guess I dont know what else to say except for I pray for the day I can have FOOD again.. Creamy soup, puree, atkins shakes, anything!!!! I pray God will help me get in the protein so I can survive these next few weeks.. And another thing, is it normal to burp and hickup?? I seem to burp an awful lot.. and most of the time its painful.. Other than that Im fine, got out today went to Toys R Us with the girls and my mom and all.. Felt better getting out and feeling normal, even though im not! Well, love yall and talk to you later jen

Hey Lady!! I saw earlier on here that you weren't feeling really good. I am sorry. Just wanted to suggest trying to make the Jello and adding the unjury. The way to make it is on the unjury website. It might be more tolerate. I don't know anything else to suggest sincec i have not been in your shoes...yet!! I wish you the best and I am praying for you. Rachel

Jen...my first six weeks were rough but it will get better with time. Just trust that these are normal feelings and don't get so caught up with what you can't have and try to do the best with what you need to have. I agree the protein needs some help and I still struggle to get mine in. I do wish someone could make one that doesn't gag us. Just do little sips and remember at this stage you cannot get that much in at a time. Hope this helps. In Christ's love, Joan M

Awwe, Jen! (((HUGS))) I'm so sorry things have been rough since you got home! I was sort of dreading going home, since that is when reality sets in, and there are no nurses to tend to your every need! I haven't hit full mourning for food yet...my family had lasagna last night, and it smelled SOOO good. It didn't matter that I wasn't hungry! The smell was killing me. lol I haven't burped too much, but the hiccups are awful!! Those HURT!! I'm glad you got out to the store...I'm so nervous about getting out now that my foot is bothering me so much. I hope you continue to feel better...and I always try to remember that the first few weeks are supposed to be the hardest! (not that it makes it easier to get through! ) (((HUGS))) ~Elizabeth

Hey Jen, I've been off the computer for a couple of days. You are NOT being selfish!!! We ALL have experienced how to get the "Dreaded Protein" in right after surgery. You are soooooo not alone. I can't believe we didn't warn you about Prostat...if we didn't we dropped the ball big time, and I'm sorry!!! Because as you found out that's some nasty stuff!!! The guys seem to handle it pretty well, go figure uh At this stage it's all about whatever works for you, and trial and error is the game. I added a little splenda to the Isopure, that helped me tremendously. Whatever yo do don't get discouraged...hang in there until you find some thing that works you. Remember your best days are ahead of you, I promise Tonya

Jen, I had a couple of bad experiences with protein supplements, but Towana one of the LCBB girls suggested I get a sample pack from bariatriceating.com. It costs about $25 I got 16 samples. the 3rd one I tried I loved and is now the only supplement I can take. Its Nectar Lemon Tea. You make it up with water(which I like as I'm not a big fan of milky stuff) and it tastes just like lemon tea. Hope this helps Lesley

Jennifer Everything you are feeling is normal. The protein in this phase is the hardest. Once you move up to full liquids you will have more choices!! I tried a different flavor of the clear liquids every time. That was the only way I could get any in. I hated all the flavors and could not stand to taste the same one twice. As far as mourning food...that is normal as well. But you have to remember that you will be able to eat again. This is temporary. It is hard at first, but just remember why you did this in the first place. To feel better...be healthier...live a long life with your hubby and children. That will make it a little easier when every one else is eatingyour favorite foods!!! Melissa

Hey my friend, We have to stick together like we said at the hospital, I am trying protein shakes that Nora gave me samples of from the Vitamin Shoppe and they are pretty good, I mix with ice and water. That Prostat was the nastiest thing I ever put in my mouth! I have had a few moments, like when I smell bacon cooking or my moms famous meatballs but I just suffered through it. I burped a lot the first few days home but I figured it was all the gas they pumped in to us. I have only taken 2 pain pills since I have been home ! I am sore but not in pain. Call me! Patti
