Hey ladies.....got a...
Hey ladies.....got a question for yall. I weighed myself, on Monday and was down 42 lbs., but I weighed today and I am up 5 lbs!!!!!!!! Can someone help me understand this? Maybe I read the scale wrong, on Monday....maybe. I mean I feel like I am on a diet, ya know. I eat very little and I ALWAYS pick the healthier selections, too. I had my surgery on April 28th and thought that Ilost 42 lbs. and was as happy as a clam, but today when I weighed....it brought me to tears. I mean how is it physically possible. Don't we only absorb a fraction of the calories and etc.... I need to help here

Ok, I am going to slap your hand and tell you that you should only weigh once a week at the most! I have been weighing once a week in the morning since my surgery and it works for me. I have not gained once... but when I slip up and weigh more often (yes, you can slap my hand too) I notice a 3-5 weight gain. Our bodies retain fluids and food. If you are constipated or dehydrated you will see a gain- there are lots of reasons. But here's my advice- first RELAX! Then start a record where you record your weight once a week, weighing at the same time, same day... This will help, I promise! Some people only weigh once a month, but I can't wait that long... I get nervous I will gain... If you get obssevie about the scale, toss it and weigh at a friend's or family members house. I know people who don't even own one... I hope this helps. The ups and downs of the scale can cause depression and anxiety, so please take my advice.

Chell,
I know this is easier said than done, because I've struggled with what the scale says. But I've decided that I'm not going to struggle anymore! I'm not going to let what the scales says determine whether I'm a success, or happy with myself for that day. And you shouldn't either. Look how far you've come already...If you continue to do your part, Girlfriend you WILL LOSE the weight.
So take Carla's advice to heart. It will help you keep your sanity.
Hang in there Sweetie, the best days are ahead of you not behind you

Hey Chell!
I have been trying to catch up on the board and I just read this post. I got discouraged, too, because I saw a gain of a few pounds one time and it upset me. However, a few days later, they were gone and more! We can easily become addicted to weighing, and sometimes it may help to keep us in check, but at the same time it can drive us crazy. Weighing once a week is good advice. Now if I could only get myself to do that....
Hugs!
Christine
PS- I FINALLY hit the 30 pound mark. Losing slowly is very frustrating to me, but at least the numbers continue to go down. No matter how many people tell me that the lightweights lose slower, I still get annoyed to see everyone else dropping much more than I am. On a good note- I am wearing a favorite shirt today that I have not been able to wear in about 4-5 years!
