Okay, Since so many of you have asked about my day with Urology, I decided to post the letter I wrote to Dr. B. because it just says perfectly how the day went. Darling Barbara M. was so kind to drive me to MUSC and wait with me through the whole thing....she gets big kisses and hugs from me!!! She is a real Angel!! Anyway, no better than I was yesterday, no worse for the wear either...but still in pain Here is the letter... ahd Dr. B. did respond and said how sorry he was that I was having such a difficult time...I love, love that man!! He really does care for us! I am not exaggerating at all about my day, Barb can vouch for me I went today for my urodynamics test and it did not show anything. I can tell you one thing, I do not care for or have any respect for Dr. R. or the entire urology dept. They run that clinic like a bunch of monkeys managing it. I show up early for the appointment and they told me I was late. Well, not by what the scheduling dept told me. Anyway, I saw Dr R., and all I can say is that he is not you, and was very dismissive, arrogant and condesending...with a terrible attitude. His whole response was, here is some medicine and try that, sorry we can't help you and you are in pain...all while he is walking away. No other ideas or possible solutions or ideas of what is causing the pain. He tried to blame it all on my herpetic outbreak, which has just come up in the past couple of days, this pain has been going on long before that, and it is all external, the pain is all internal in the urethral area. Anyway, I can tell you that my husband and I are not impressed at all with the Urology dept at MUSC, with the exception of Dr. Clarke. My personal diagnosis is that the stones did damage as they were passing through, and it has caused swelling and spasms, but no one will listen to me. He gave me a prescription, Prosed/DS and when I asked him if it had NSAIDS in it, he said a little bit. I then said," well, I am not supposed to take NSAIDS, is this something Dr. Byrne would not approve of ?", he said probably, as he turned and walked away. I have never had a doctor or person be so rude before, and was very close to tears having been treated so poorly. What a jerk, I have no respect for someone who is that rude or blatantly dismissive. Arrogant is one thing, but to be an out and out jerk is uncalled for. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for talking to the other Dr. R. that day, and for helping me get an appointment....not sure it did any good, but at least I did the test Dr. Clarke wanted me to do so it would rule out other problems than stones, now we know it is all from the stones more than likely. I hope you have a better day than I did I still think you are awesome, and because I think so highly of you and the way you care about your patients, I suppose my expectations are set higher and when someone like this who is supposed to be an expert in his field acts this way, it was a real let down. No one can measure up to you!! You are awesome, and your caring about people and your patients comes across strongly, and we can all tell you really do care for your patients...in case you did not know that! Sincerely, Deb PS....I did take out the doctor's names to protect the innocent...

It amazes me the way the medical field feels they can treat their patients. With the exception of our Dear Dr. Byrne and an ENT in Mt. Pleasant, I have found that female doctors treat female patients with a lot more respect and listen better. This is why I will not see a male PCP. I even discussed this theory with my PCP, who is leaving her practice, for reasons unknown to me, and she agreed. Male Doctors treat male patients better than female, with the exceptions stated above. Also the scheduling department at MUSC had messed my 1 month appointment with Dr. B and scheduled me for a time that he was not even there, then they changed my appointment and did not tell me. This time, for my 3 mth, I had to change it to 3 months post-op instead of 4 months post-op, and requested a letter stating the change. Someone I know that works at MUSC calls the scheduling department the BLACK HOLE. With those vents off my chest, I am sooooo sorry to hear all the trouble you have gone through with those stones. I hope and pray all works out. Hugs Julie

Deb, I am SO sorry that you had to go through all of that. Aside from the humiliation of that test, especially with a male doc performing it, his lack of respect is just unconscionable. Time for a second opinion, my dear. Julie, I am in COMPLETE agreement with you here. My daughter and I will only go to a female PCP and ob/gyn. Actually, our doc knows if we need to be referred to another specialist, first check to see if there is a female doc. I do ADORE Dr. B and he is an exception to this rule, but I have always found female docs to not only be more in tune with my anatomy, but also to be more patient and nurturing by nature. Deb, I pray that you DO seek a second opinion (I can't recommend my urogyn, though, because I think he messed up my urethra) and find out what is causing this. Will you be at LCBB tonight? You need a whole bushel of hugs, girl! Love, Christine

My hubby is coming home this evening, and I still feel like I gotta pee every 5 minutes, so I doubt I am going tonight. I love my pcp, who is a male, and very nice...in fact I have usually had the opposite opinion of docs, the females are the worst...to me anyway, and the males are usually more caring. The PA I saw in the ER last week was a complete doll, and I would loved for him to have gone with me to the urology dept yesterday. He said to me, "I think urology needs to get on board with this" and I told him, in the ER, I think they should, and he said, "I think they are OBLIGATED to you at this point". Did not do any good. Dr. Byrne said he was so sorry I was going through all of this, but aside him not being a urologist, not much he can do. I did however email him to ask if I can take ibuprofen via suppository not knowing if it is the fact that the nsaids go through the gi tract, or that they just go in you period that causes problems, so I hope I can find out Love you all lots, talk to you soon! Now I am still Tricare Standard, and today he is officially retired from the Air Force, and Boeing is picking up the rest Tricare does not pay for, so I have not recourse becuase it was not a referral, via the military hospitals. Thanks, Deb Love you guys
