Recipe Book Idea

I had an idea and want to see if you guys are up for it. I was thinking of putting together a recipe book for the newbies and the rest of us that includes recipes both pureed and solid food phase that worked for us. I have spoken to Christine about it and she also added the idea of a FAQ section and I thought about adding advice and wisdom we have gotten since being on this journey. You would be given credit for any recipe you have given. Christine also suggested about making a section of protein powders and other supplies we use and cost analysis for the products. She said I woke a sleeping dragon by mentioning this to her, she is in creative mode. Depending on how well this is recieved would determine a cost. I am thinking of offering it free to those who are starting the journey because it would be nothing fancy. But if it takes off, may be we can collect money and what ever profit we make we donate it to a person who is a self pay or another charity. So what do you guys think? Any one interested sharing recipes or words of wisdom and incouragement? Hugs Julie

Start thinking about what recipes you did and write them down. I am still waiting for others to get on the band wagon. MUSC is doing one also but I would like to still do one from us for those not in the MUSC system. Let me know what you come up with... Thanks for the support Julie

Julie If you & Christine are willing to put that kind of time into creating a Recipe Book...God Bless You~! I for one would truly appreciate your efforts and feel that it is definitely needed. Maybe as more folks read about your noble intentions you will receive more responses. Afterall, we do have a great bunch of ladies on this South Carolina board who are always willing to go that extra mile when needed. If I can be of assistance let me know. Suuz

hey, Actually.........MUSC is working on this right now and it will be a submission of recipes from all of us and will be given out I think for free...or for a nominal charge, $4.00 or something low to cover the printing. I will keep you guys updated on the progress of it since Amanda Budak is working on it, she is Dr. Byrne's coordinator and I had mentioned to her 2 months ago we needed to do this and she was all for it, and MUSC can print it and give it out when pre ops come in, and for us posties too!! Great Minds Think Alike!!!!!!! Deborah

I knew MUSC was updating the book they had out at the meetings, so keep us posted. I still would like to do it so that if others, not in the MUSC group, need some recipes we have a central place for all of them and email. Thanks for the info. Julie

speaking of email, Julie, we should have the availability to email it to people in a word document or some easy-to-open file, for those upstate who are not MUSC. I am going to start poring through my recipes, but I will not post them here because you know I have way too many from the last cookbook I did. Are you going to format this or am I? And let me know if you want to see the last one I did and I'll bring it to LCBB. Gotta run- much to do today! Hugs! Christine

I was going to put them in word document and have them available for email. Formatting? You mean putting it together. I was going to work on it but hey I will take any help I can get. If you have ideas share them. Take it easy today. I know you have a lot to do, just take it easy. Hugs Julie

I think this one is not going to be that cheap kind, but is supposed to bound, and anyone from anywhere can get it...you don't have to do MUSC or be a part of it. I think they were talking about only charging a nominal fee to cover the printing, like $4.00 or something small, but all kinds of recipes that outline the beginning, month 1 to solids, and older post ops, ideas when you eat out, and everything. I had presented the idea to Amanda, and told her we desperately needed it because I had NOTHING when I was going in and had to guess my way through and came up with my own recipes, ideas and food group ideas. She said that nutrition and the dieticans would be able to analyze it for fat/calorie/protein/sugar content per serving etc... I would love to be a part of it and if you get ready, let me know. I am ready to get started now. I am already writing down the ones that worked for me. So if you have got any please email them to me. I am also looking for protein mixes that you like, where to find them and how much. Words of encouragement and advice. Any questions you wish you had answered before and after the surgery. Anything you can think of. I do not want it to replace the MUSC on, just an addition to it. And I am not looking at doing anything fancy with it. A document format for emails and a inexpensive (stapled) hard copy format. I wish I had a whole recipe book to look at when I was doing this also. I found one at Barnes and Noble but the recipes can get pretty exotic with the ingredients. I would greatly appreciate any help. We can also give what we get to Amanda for their also. Thanks Julie
