Topic: RE: Revision - shortening common channel

So sorry to hear about your problems, I think we all have different issues thrown at us, I was sleeved on 6/13 and lost 100lbs. Due to life throwing curve balls at me I've regained 50lbs, but now I seem to have acid reflux and my surgeon is going to do a revision. I'm hopeful since the reflux is bad and I've stopped eating food I was used to eating. I haven't heard of the procedure but I wish you well.

Topic: Caution against revision to sleeve because of GERD?

Just want some feedback. Banded in 2013, and never saw great success. However, I didn't gain weight, and for me, that's a minor victory. When the band was way too tight, yes, I had GERD....The band is totally unfilled now, and I am fine.

My doctor did a EGD and the band had "migrated to the esophageal junction". My question is:

1. My GERD seems to only happen with a very, very tight band that was ill placed. Should I still be leary of the sleeve?

2. Only options I have here in town to my knowledge are sleeve and band. I already had the band. I want to get to my goal weight (160), so I have about 50 pounds. I know I will lose more slowly than first timers. I am ok with that.

Anybody here have a similar story and have success with sleeve?

Topic: 50/50 chance of revision not possible during surgery?

My wife is having revision surgery in 10 days. Everything has been going smoothly (except for an insurance issue that postponed the surgery for 6 weeks). Today, for the first time, her surgeon mentioned that there's a 50/50 chance that surgery won't be possible if there is too much scar tissue from the previous procedure. He won't know for sure until he gets inside to "see what's going on" during the actual surgery. 50/50 seemed a bit pessimistic to me, especially since this was never mentioned before and every test has gone well. Has anyone else been told this? My wife is understandably upset over this information.

Topic: RE: Revision covered under Tricare?

Hello! Obviously every situation is different but I just recently had a RNY turned into a D-switch back in December which was covered by tricare.

Topic: RE: IBS and revision

IBS can be tricky. People have IBS with no WLS. Are you sure the RNY caused one? what are the chance that revising to VSG would fix your IBS?

I had RNY and I am a dumper. If I eat the wrong foods - my IBS symptoms are off the charts. I have IBS now (I am 10 years post op RNY) but I belive I had it before, just not as bad as I have now.

I can control my IBS symptoms by following a very strict diet. And while I add supplements.

It can be difficult but it is what it is.

I am pretty sure I had IBS before RNY. But since I saw a doc for a specific condition (back pain, leg injury, obgyn, etc)- I did not need a PCP="a family doc".

A new study showed that IBS can be blamed on SIBO and/or food allergies.
