I had the same problem. Dr. Michael Sarr at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota was the only surgeon that would do the revision. I had to travel about 100 miles to have it done and they require you to have follow up appointments with them for about a year.
My revision was very complicated. The original VBG surgeon had butchered my stomach. I had severe GERD and Barrett's Esophagus (and many other complications from the VBG). I had 7 specialist tell me that they had never seen anything like my case and would not touch me.
Dr. Sarr saved my life. The revision to RNY took 7 hours. There was a lot of scar tissue. I was in the hospital for a full week. I woke up from the surgery GERD free. It was the first time in 25 years that I had no pain in my throat and chest.
My revision was in 2010. I'm doing great!
This might sound crazy, but have you thought about contacting Dr. Nowzaradan in Houston, TX? I know he is the 600lb life surgeon, but he has been doing bariatric surgery for a long time and is a very experienced surgeon. He may be able to help you or at least point you to another surgeon who can.
Best of luck.
I CURIOUS WHAT WAS THE REASON THE DR. MADE THAT DECISION. I STARTED MY PROCESS IN MARCH 2018. HAD THE EGD.MY PREOP IS 4/30/18. SURGERY DATE 5/17/18. IM HERE IN TEXAS BUT I HAD MY SURGERY IN 2214 IN ALASKA.DUE TO GERD. AND NOT LOOSING THE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT. THE DR. HAS DECIDED TO MOVE FORWARD. I WISH YIU THE BEST OF LUCK IN FINDING A NEW DR.MAYBE YIU CAN GOOGLE REVISION DR.'S IN YOUR AREA....GOOD LUCK.
My doctor was also not able to revise right away. He told me 2 months of healing before he could try revision (of course I am fighting with the insurance atm about the revision). Many doctors won't even consider same day revision.
I had to have emergency lap band removal in February because of major slippage that was cutting off my small intestines. The dr told me the conversion approval shouldn't be a problem because the band failure was not my fault and I was very successful with it. I just got my denial today and I am so pissed! I have gained 20 pounds in the past 2 months after being stable for 11 years! Now we have to go to peer to peer challenge. Wish me luck.
I was sleeved in May 2014, got to goal (down 130lbs) and was maintaining. I developed significant GERD about 8 months post surgery. While we were trying to treat the GERD I gained about 12 lbs, mostly due to the crackers I was eating to absorb the acid. I converted to RNY July 2016. My recovery was easy. I was out for 2 weeks, but worked from home the last 4 days. I was on the same post surgery eating schedule as with my initial surgery, so 6 weeks before I was allowed to eat all foods. I lost my weight gain in about 6 months. With my sleeve I had no food issues. that is not the case after conversion. I have dumping syndrome and I also have reactive hypoglycemia. Also, my GERD isn't 100% gone, but it is easily manageable with medication.
I am a 50 year old wife and mother. My 13 year old calls me "The Inside Parent"! Now if that does not kill you I don't know what would!
I am desperately seeking a Doctor capable and willing to do a revision on my 26 year old VBG! I'm not having much luck. One doctor told me "No Doctor worth his salt would touch me"! That was about 4 years ago.
Has anyone out there had a revision done on an Old VBG? I need the help afforded to me by the WLS to succeed again and I don't want to wake up for the rest of my life being the "Inside Parent"!
Thanks...Blessings...
Thank you! I see the new surgeon in about 2 weeks. I'm praying to get a resolution soon.
Thank you for your response! :) exactly what I was looking for. I hope to go back to work within a weeks time. And if I can get down about 20 some pounds I know I would feel so much better in my clothes. Happy to hear your recovery went so smooth. Man now I am even more excited:) thank you!
Hi! My procedure went smooth, very smooth. I am down 22 lbs... The weight don't come off as fast as it did for the original surgery but it us coming off. I stayed off work 2 weeks but honestly I could have went back after 1 week. I have not experience a dumping episode nor diarrhea. If I work out harder I believe the weight will melt off a lol faster... I need to be down 50 more lbs by July, so we will see. I feel great. #prayingyouaspeedyrecovery
