I had to have emergency lap band removal in February because of major slippage that was cutting off my small intestines. The dr told me the conversion approval shouldn't be a problem because the band failure was not my fault and I was very successful with it. I just got my denial today and I am so pissed! I have gained 20 pounds in the past 2 months after being stable for 11 years! Now we have to go to peer to peer challenge. Wish me luck.

Good luck. I would love to be updated on your story.

Dr. Roslin in NYC at Lennox Hill Hospital has a newer version of the DS that he does. He has been a huge advocate of the DS over the RNY for many years. You may want to get his opinion even if you don't use him for your surgery.

Are surgeons still doing this revision? I read a post from a surgeon on RealSelf that the StomaPhyx and ROSE procedure were no longer done.

Topic: stoma revision

Hi everyone I have a question who in Missouri does stoma revisions. I'm not from the U.S and I don't have health insurance. My stoma is enlarged and has exceeded the 5cm mark. I can't go to my original surgeon as he is oversea's in Australia. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Topic: RE: Band removed 2015, considering RNY

Yes it is a revision.

If I were you I would seek out a surgeon who is very experienced with revisions (has done hundreds at a minimum) so that should be your first question to this surgeon. "how many band revisions have you done?" followed by "what complications did you encounter and how did you handle them?".

I travelled to go to mine. A doctor who has done a lot of band revisions will have experience with dealing with adhesions. Normally a surgeon will remove the band. If the scar tissue is too heavy, they will clean it up and send you home to heal and attempt a revision after about 3 months.

If your doctor cleaned out all your adhesions you are good to go for an RNY. if he didn't, be prepared for your new surgeon to have to do it and then send you home to heal before proceeding with an RNY.

No surgeon will do a revision if you have thick scar tissue, it is because the staples won't hold and that could kill you.

Be very very grateful you didn't get another band again in 2015. You'd have even bigger problems today.

Topic: RE: Would like revision updates from others

I am not scheduled yet. I met with the bariatric surgeon about 35 lbs ago and he told me to work hard and get the regain taken off then we would recheck. Since then I had the EGD as well. I was actually diagnosed with GER as a baby then GERD about 15 years ago. I've dealt with it my entire life and actually was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus about 6 years ago also (with negative screens since then).

I really don't want to face revision either. I've been eating Keto since November and have managed to lose 35 of 42 pounds of regain. I am starting a new gym regimen this week in hopes that it will help me knock out the last of the regain, plus another 20 lbs to get to my actual goal weight.

it is my sincere hope that at that point, the GERD will be gone or mild enough to manage with an H2 inhibitor instead of the PPI.

I'm looking at a VSG to RNY revision only because of severe persistent GERD (had it all my life, surgeon was sure it would resolve with VSG but no luck).

I am fighting to get off some remaining regain and i'll see the surgeon again in a couple months. Looking to hear updates from those who had revisions within the last 6 months.

How are you doing now?

If you had revision because of symptoms, did they resolve?

Have you lost any further weight?

Do you regret it?

I am in the same position. I will be 6 years post op VSG in June. I had mild GERD which was managed with 1 pill each morning. In December the Gerd became worse. I met with a gastro and my meds were changed, and then increased. I had an endoscopy and the obvious dx severe GERD. He told me to see my surgeon. I did and he said the only fix is to covert to bypass. I don't want the surgery. I met with the nutritionist and after that I didn't want the surgery even more. A lifetime of chewable vitamins and possible dumping and numerous other side effects.

I am scheduled for surgery on May 31 but I am considering canceling it. I know the GERD has it's own set of complications.

I was hoping to hear some more responses. Are you scheduled for surgery yet? I have some regain but from what I have been told the bypass after a sleeve will not have the same weight loss results as a traditional bypass. The fondus is already gone and the other hormonal part of the surgery that helps the weight melt off are just not present.

I would be happy to each in touch with you to provide and receive support.

Thank you so much for sharing your positive outcome, I know the negative outcome is just as true and as important but my heart and hopes is set on doing this surgery in the very near future so even though I know it seems to be less successful than we all hope so it's nice to know that it does work for some and I'm really hoping I'm one of them. Thanks again
