You said you do not want congratulations, but you deserve them. Congrats on taking the steps necessary to save your life. Keep working hard! People need to learn from you and take responsibility for their choices.

I hope your cervical issues are taken care of. My mom is battling cervical cancer right now.

Topic: RE: How much weight did you lose after RNY revision surgery?

I had a wound infection and took a round of antibiotics. I got some fluid behind my liver (was due to surgery but could of been any surgery) which they drained. Other than that I have only faced the eating issues of adjusting. Losing weight has exposed a hernia that was hidden by fat that will be fixed at some point.

Had I read the forums I would of posted my story here but to make it less lengthy go to this link on the forums.

The statistics are bleak but you don't have to be that statistic. I have proven that. When I so desperately sought out this information there was one person's story online that gave hope. They worked hard to make it happen. I followed their lead and have been successful. They feel I am within 50 lbs of where I can get without massive skin removal surgery. That's ok I can do anything and live life with it or without it and before I was dying.

My Dr. said most revisions have a 50 lbs success statistic. My RNY was 30 years ago before they even knew dumping was part of it. She rebuilt my RNY completely and took me distal.

My post is to give hope. When I sought a revision everything I read was minimal help and failure. Even the Dr. told me the success rate of a revision was about 50 lbs which is a lot of the reason why Dr's do not want to do them. I weighed 543 pounds and had RNY 30 years ago. Sure there were problems that allowed me to gain my weight but truth is I did it. I knew I would die on that operating table. So I told my surgeon I am not sure I can do this for 50 lbs. She sent me home for a six month diet with no goals. Who at 543 pounds really loses weight?

I decided on that drive home I would give every ounce of me for six months. Maybe I could lose enough to live through a surgery. Went home to almost instant AFIB and it was a reality check that at any moment I could die. Got a cervical cancer scare and every Dr. said your to heavy to help. I dug so deep for six months and lost 143 lbs.

My next surgeon visit she said I am going to completely rebuild your RNY and make it distal. Most revisions tighten the stomach. I had to be in or out, death or life. I chose to be in. My surgeons last weight on me around surgery was 404 so yes I gained a bit trying to eat my last addiction.

With her expertise, my tool, my digging even deeper today seven months later I have lost 137 lbs. A total in the past 19 months of 276 lbs.

I'm not typing this for any congratulations. I'm posting this so those seeking a revision can find someone who is succeeding. That every post is about how it doesn't work. I won't kid you it's not as easy and I'm in my 50's so even that plays against it but if you want this bad enough you got it! You can do it. You can make it work. Just know that it's gonna have to be more you than the surgeon and the surgery.

Went for consult today and have chosen Bypass - I want to get this WLS right this time, and believe that I need the malabsorption in addition to the restriction.

Thank you so much! I don't know why there are some very bitter people on this community who try to spread their unhappiness to others. As for me, my mother, G-d bless her, told me to use my words to lift people up. I think it feels so much better to try to help someone than to try to cut them down. xoxo

I do not have a lot of knowledge of the revision procedures. I do however see several people assuming you have gained weight. You are an incredible inspiration and anyone who takes 5 minutes to look you up will see you are the definition of a successful weight loss patient. No one at their goal weight would want to have anot get surgery, unless there is a serious reason. I hope you get your digestion issues taken care of quickly. Wishing you the best!!!!

Thank you. I agree with you that what "I" am doing is not working -- if it was then I would have gotten better. And what I have done is followed the protocols outlined by all of my healthcare professionals, which is why I am now looking for new approaches and am getting new HCPs. I have a follow-up with my Gastro next week, the new one that did the SIBO test... fingers crossed she knows what she is doing. If not, then I will keep looking until I find someone who is experienced with SIBO like you did... now that I finally know that I have it.
