I'm in the same boat. I had my surgery in 2004 and lost 120 lbs. I've gained 1/2 my weight back and just can't seem to get on track. I would love to work with a group of ladies to get back on track. Is there a group started?

Topic: Has anyone had their Duodenal Switch revised because they weren?t losing enough?

Hi all!

I had my duodenal switch done around 5 years ago. I was very strict the first year out and lost about 135lbs but never got down to goal. I went from 320 down to 185 and Im 5"3 and I found that I did not lose as quickly as some others. There were 3 tragic deaths in my family the first year of my surgery so I'm sure that stress didnt help the situation and I also developed hypophosphatemia after getting an iron infusion and was exhausted all the time. Roll forward to 2018 and I have gained 40lbs back and I am now 225lbs and 5"3. It's rather depressing. Some fo the weight gain came after I began taking phophorous because it tanked after my infusion and more weight was packed on because I felt defeated and began eating more carbs. I also developed hyperthyroid which caused weight gain-never realized that was a thing but I noticed the weight coming on quicker once my PTH rose. Needless to say I am going to try to get my food in order and see if this surgery works for me but I was wondering if anyone else has gained weight with the DS and if they were able to get it off and how OR if they have had revision surgery. My surgeon does a one size fits all DS and I remember reading somewhere that this can sometimes backfire for folks that are shorter and that the HESS method is the more appropriate method to go with for DS. My doc did a 5 oz sleeve and 100cm common channel on all patients and did not use the HEss method. Some of his patients do better and others are like me so I think there is definitely something to getting a DS that is not one size fits all. Trying to figure out if I should have another surgeon take a look at things and see if they can help me.

Hello Tiffany,

I think my story is very close to yours, I had my surgery in 2009. It was the best decision i have ever made. But just like you over time my life and my decisions have allowed my weight to creep right back on. A couple of weeks ago I went to the dr and stood on the scale and thought.....I am right back where I started. But I left there thinking.....I am going to take this right back off. I turn 50 this year and I am determined that I will not move forward in life with this weight on me.

So my friend...we can do this. My tool still works . I just have to use it properly. I am already down 9 pounds. Lets do this together. I need friends to help me a long and we can encourage each other.

My name is Alicia Melton . feel free to contact me anytime. if you want I will forward my email and we can keep in contact and help each other a long.

Have a great day!!

Topic: Revision received letter back from Cigna

I received a letter from Cigna regarding the revision they said I need not to respond they sent this to my Surgeon for more information to see if it was medically necessary. I wonder what do they need from the surgeon?

Topic: RE: LapBand to Bypass... I'm nervous I won't lose :-( Reassurance for the second time around?

Don't worry...I've had no trouble losing after my revision. I had LB in June 07, it slipped and was removed in 2009. He was supposed to replace the band, but I woke up without a band at all. He said I wasn't a good candidate for LB now. Boo!

Im seven years out with my RNY, and weighed 139 today. I keep lowering my goal WT as I find it is possible that lose more. Lol

Barbara Maples :Starting Wt253/Surg Wt/223/Wt Now 133/GW130 /5 '3... LapBand 7/07/2007,-75lb, LB slipped and was removed 2009, weight gain followed, RNY 6/12/2011-120b. 3 lb to goal!!!

I know this has probably been asked over and over but I am having my lapband/port removed then revision to sleeve in one swoop. I am thinking the removal may add a lot more soreness. Could be wrong. Is hospital stay generally 2 nights? Would like to hear from those that had it all done at once.

Second chance at using this amazing tool

May 05, 2018

Hi errbody, wow! It's been over 14 years since I've posted. I think my last entry was 2005 and I was down from 324 to 262 and feeling accomplished, healthy and good. My journey continued and I got down to186 my lowest, in 2008. Lots of transitions in my life good and challenging. Mostly good. Had an endoscopy and upper GI about a month ago, and found out my pouch is stretched out 100% to its original size, and my stoma's not only stretched, but now the shape of a banana.....huh? How's that happen lol? So to make a long entry short, I've been given a second chance to get back on track to health n wholeness.

On May 23, I'm scheduled for Apollo Overstitch revision surgery with Dr Jonathan Arad in Eat Chester N.Y. I was scheduled for the 9th, which I was soo excited about but, because it's a robotic surgery, a rep from the Apollo Endosurgery company has to be present, and he's on vacation that week. I was so down and frustrated, I'd changed my work schedule, made plans to stay at a friend's house that night, although it's a same day surgery, my loving wife's a little squeamish when it comes to those things, and she'd feel better knowing my needs, if any, were being met. I'm a woman of faith, so I still give God all glory for this to even be a possibility. I started researching revision surgery in January, when I was at my wits end, depressed, and wondering why am I not as full as quickly, or why can I gulp liquids? Yes, I take responsibility for not always doing the right thing, I've always and still see WLS as a tool, and not a miracle pill or quick fix. When I asked Dr Arad about my stretching he said, we didn't know in 2004 what we know today about WLS. Apollo Overstitch is a FULL thickness suture procedure through the entire gastric wall, where others are only partial thickness. My pouch and stoma will be tightened permanently. I know they'll be challenges adjusting to this new tightening, but I'm looking forward to the restriction and really listening to my body again, and renewed energy, weight loss, and feeling better about my self and all I've accomplished in my now 53 yrs. Promise I'll update on my recovery soon as I'm home. Part of doing it differently this time, I realize it takes a village to stay on track, so talk back at me lol... Michele

Some people get revision from RNY to DS. That is a very complicated and difficult procedure. Only a few docs n the world know how to do that correctly. Post the question on DS forum.

Or you can try to lose the weight using the tool you have. It may take you 1-2 years but it can be done. Dedication, proper diet- but it can be done.

My apologies. I posted an old link and it was my own fault for not doing further research. It's been removed.

I am sincerely sorry.

edited for clarity: I was out of line and am very aware of that. No excuses.
