Just to add, I also wouldn't choose a revision if it was solely for the purpose of regaining weight. The revision is only because the ulcers have become life-threatening. They will also quite likely remove the remnant stomach. I'm not sure I like that idea, but I have a huge risk of ulcer bleeds in that area that they wouldn't be able to get to to easily repair.

Thank you. I'm glad I found this. I'm going to be exploring the site a lot more.

This is exactly what my surgeon said. You don't happen to go to the Kane Center.

Hi Linda,

It came down to 2 things. First, since I've already had a restrictive procedure, going to a different restrictive only procedure may not be quite as successful as I can be with restrictive plus malabsorbtion. Second, I've read quite a few situations of severe GERD developing with the sleeve and even higher chance revising from the band due to scar tissue. Those patients are revising to bypass to get rid of GERD so I decided I didn't want to chance having to do a 3rd surgery. I felt this was best for me.

My surgeon also does the revision in one surgery, thank goodness!

Good luck to you!

Thanks Kelly

I'm sorry about your regain and hernia. It seems that quite a few folks regain their weight post weight loss surgery, but most folks dont regain much back with the Duodenal switch from what I understand so I am one of the rare ones. I wish you the best and hope that you are able to heal from your hernia.

I did not have the gastric bypass so I am not familiar with it;however, I would suggest that whoever you have do your revision is very skilled in revisions of RNY as they are more complicated. Perhaps ask your question on the RNY board or RNY facebook pages. You might get more replies there.

Hi there! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. I am going to try to work my surgery as best I can and if I don't have any success I am going to talk to Dr. K. I went to my own surgeon back in 2015 when I first began to struggle and he simply said to get a Fitbit and move more and that he gave me the best surgery the first time out. He didnt do any investigating and wasnt interested in the fact that I was struggling, despite staying on track with my eating. I eventually got frustrated and began to eat more carbs, which I am now trying to reign in. It's struggle but I never had quite the eating limitations most had early out and was able to eat more than most early out so I think the bigger sleeve wasnt helpful to me. I'm glad that things turned out well for you but Im' sorry you had to come about it the hard way. I really dont want to get another surgery so I am going to do my part. It's just been incredibly hard to reign in the carbs but Ive been gradually lowering them more and more each week and moving more. Thank you again for your input.

Hi there! Yes, I am going to try to work my tool first and see what I can do before I try other options. It's been challenging to reign in the carbs but I'm doing so gradually.

You and I are in similar boats . I am currently awaiting insurance approval for the revision .I was nervous about the bypass too but ultimately decided it's the most effective , most foolproof out there .I can not risk doing the sleeve and having issues. Mentally , physically and financially I feel bypass is best for me . Good luck .
