Topic: Experiences with Weight Loss after Revision

I had my revision last Thursday and am feeling great other than being a being a bit sore. I'd had my band for 11 years so there was quite a bit of scar tissue and they had a little trouble getting it out. I've just completed my first week of the liquid phase.

I would just like to know from "real" people, what their experiences have been with their weight loss. Most of what is written on the internet is people writing "testimonials" for doctors.

Would really appreciate any information. Thanks

I have gained 40 of the 80 pounds that I lost with the sleeve. But I want to thank you for this information. You really helped me fill better about the rny. I was going to get re-sleeved and do the links for the GERD until I read about it and realized that I do not want any foreign objects in my body. Thank you again and congratulations on your weight loss.

I have lost a bit over a 100lbs and I still have 45 to go as I had gained most of my weight back when I started having issues with my band. I only didn't get it all off in the first year and a half because I had some personal issues that caused me to just blow off what I know I needed to do. I don't know how much you have to lose, but if you stay focused and listen to the vets on here you can lose to goal and maintain. Even if you have only 50lbs to lose that shouldn't be a problem and don't worry about losing to much weight.

My tool still works great and I have gotten back to what I am supposed to do within the last few weeks and have lost 6lbs.

Feel free to ask any questions if I don't have any answers I know someone on here will. :)

That is good to know. I have had iron issues since I had the sleeve done. I promise you this is my last question. How has the weight loss after the rny? I do want to lose more weight than I did with the sleeve

Well I had to take a PPI for the first 3 months after the revision and that was what my surgeon requested after that the only things I take are my vitamins. I do take a multi vit, vit D, Iron, Calcium, B complex with B12, Magnesium, Vit K and vit c which I take with my oral Iron twice a day.

My only issue is my Iron which some RNY patients have issues absorbing orally and have to have iron infusions (I have had two rounds), but if you keep on top of your blood work every 6 months and make sure who ever is ordering it puts down Ferritin as that is what really counts with the Iron you should be ok or at least know if you are starting to have issues so you can correct it.

I think you meant to replay to OP instead of me.

Is there much difference in medication you have to take for the rny after surgery, then what we had to take after the gastric sleeve surgey?

It was the best thing I ever did. For me it stopped my GERD/heartburn completely.

Only roughly 30% of RNY patients develop dumping syndrome.

Hello, I am going through the steps to obtain an approval from my insurance company for a revision of my sleeve because of GERD. Please can you tell me how it has been since you revised to the RNY. I have been so nervous to do the RNY but my mind is telling me it will be the best choice in order to hopefully stop my GERD. I think I am afraid of dumping syndrome or losing to much weight.

Topic: Ulcers from non absorbable sutures/ revision

Had RNY 2012 did great until I had a GI bleed and massive Marginal Ulcer 1/2015 never found a bleed site but assumed from ulcer. At least 7 sutures and a couple of surgical clips were seen during endo but GI did not take them out. Was transfused and in Intermediate care. I recovered but have had multiple slow to heal ulcers since and another massive bleed in Jan 2017. I have a lot of pain drinking or eating with nausea and vomiting at times no matter what I eat. My GI is worried I could bleed again and not make it to the hospital and has been pushing for a revision since then.

I have been on Max PPI therapy since 1/15 have had iron infusions and now on Pepcid at my request. Zofran was 3xd but was adding to my nausea. Recently had to take it even though surgeon took me off all of my meds and vits but bp, levothyroxine and PPIs etc. No change in my ability to drink and eat which was his hope. I didn't take nsaids at time of first bleed but after suspected TIA I was taking aspirin. I have not taken any since 12/2017 still no change. No smoking either. I have been able to keep my weight up by eating higher calorie foods I would never have eaten in the past but my old bariatric group threatened a G-tube and that was not going to happen. That group removed sutures and the rest fell out over time but new ones continue to migrate in. I don't usually ulcerate where the sutures are. H-pylori always neg. This group refused to do a revision"it's hard" but so is living like this.

My original surgeon was not practicing in the US when I had the first bleed but followed me and kept in touch through all of this. My surgeon told me he used half absorbable and half non absorbable and I am reacting to them. I also had a bad reaction to abdominal mesh for a hernia repair. He is now back and I am currently seeing him after insurance approved out of network at in network cost. He is hesitant on the revision as well because it is more dangerous than original surgery. I would have to endos every 3-6 months forever. I have had at least 15 endos since 2015 and have one tomorrow. He thought he saw another suture coming through but too deep and couldn't get it in April.

I am fed up with feeling crappy all the time and having to inconvenience my kids for rides all the time. At almost 65 it's not the only thing they help me with;). They are great but they have lives too. I may also need a valve replaced sometime and I worry about my anesthesia cards running out.

When we did talk surgery the options: remove pouch so then esophagus connected to jejunum and maybe taking out stomach since no bleed site ever seen. I asked about revising anastomosis and was told no. I asked about convert to sleeve told no. I am worried about straight tube and no gastric reservoir no matter how small. My pouch is not large.

I read about others having revisions for similar reasons and wonder why mine is saying no. He is an excellent surgeon with great stats and I do trust him. I am glad I did this and would do again just without those sutures. I'm puzzled by 4 MDs not wanting to do a revision. Any information or ideas would be helpful. I don't want to do this anymore and am fed up with this situation.

Sorry this is so long and thank you.
