My journey is a long one: 2004 Lapband, 2010 Sleeve, and less than 3 weeks ago Hiatal Hernia repair and gastric bypass due to prior surgeries.
I feel I can eat everything and I'm less than 3 weeks out of surgery. My weight also stopped coming off. I started at a lower weight - 225 when I had my consultation and 210 on the day of surgery and currently 203.
I'm a bit frustrated because I have been doing this rollercoaster for years now and feel that because I have already eaten lower calories for years, losing weight (I want to drop about 40 more pounds) is virtually impossible.
Pamisue,
I am in the same boat. I still have my band (installed in 2007), but it is causing problems (possible slip) and I have experienced significant regain.
I've had a consult with a doctor specialized in the sleeve and saw a DS doctor just this afternoon. Earlier this week, I attended the sleeve seminar/support group.
The meetings with the doctors have been great for learning more about technical issues like surgery risk and recovery, vitamin supplementation, potential long-term problems, and non-negotiable lifestyle changes each procedure requires.
The sleeve patient group is a supportive bunch. I was disappointed, though. Discussions centered on regain and dieting. It could have been my lap band group from ten years ago. That has driven me to look into DS as an alternative.
I look forward to learning more at the DS support group next month.
I almost made a decision before I was ready. The sleeve doctor got everything moving in a hurry after my consult. Before I left his office, I had an initial meeting with his dietician and was scheduled for more meetings with his her and his PA. Within a couple days, I was scheduled for band removal. I will be cancelling the band removal because I need more time to consider my options.
I guess my only advice is to resist being rushed.
At this stage, I feel frustrated because I hate to be undecided about anything. I just feel like I can't come to a conclusion before I've learned more. I'll probably post here to see how people feel about their sleeve and DS revisions.
I would love to know how your consult goes and if you any advice for others like me who are working on revisions.
Good morning, I had a revision from a RNY to a band around my RNY pouch. I wasn't big enough to do a DS as my surgeon mentioned. I was around 199. I got RNY in 2010 and dropped to 118 but had regain as my dr. mentioned as many a 30% do, so he did a revision for me in 2017. Weight loss has been MUCH slower but it is coming off. The vomiting happens almost daily though.
First,
I hope you are feeling better and the pain is subsiding.
I had VSG in March 2015, got down to 170 lbs (high weight 275 lbs) and then couldn't stop eating. Gained 30 pounds. Short story, had bile reflux and a hiatal hernia.
March 2017, had hernia repaired and RNY. Down to 160 lbs and maintaining.
And yes, I was in pain for a few weeks but eventually it got a lot better!
Now, I can't eat the same things with RNY as I did with VSG. For example, I eat less meat (I am a true carnivore). If I eat too much, it sits in my throat and then my pouch. It takes forever to digest now as compared to my unlimited supply of meat eating with VSG.
My advice, take you time. Learn your pouch. Know the weight will come off.

Hi Wombat... I no longer have my gallbladder, it was taken out a year after my RNY. My pain is mid back, kinda more left side. But thank you for your reply. :)
Is this mid-back pain more predominant on the right side? That's how I felt when I had gallstones. (I had my gallbladder removed a few decades ago.) Do you still have your gallbladder?

Hi Lady Godiva... thank you for your response. :)
It was at the recommendation of my bariatric surgeon to have the revision from RNY to GS... When my surgeon made the recommendation for the revision, I got a second opinion... who also agreed this was the best option for my medical situation.
With the GS -- as long as you are being followed and monitored closely by a physician, which I am, there are no medication restrictions. I am continuing my acid reflux medicine, as a preventative medicine that I've been on since my RNY - 6 years ago. As of yet, I have not started arthritis treatment, the recommendation was to wait 60 days post-op.
*fingers crossed that it's just a gas issue and easily treated*
You went from the bypass to the sleeve am I understanding the correctly? What type of treatment do you need for arthritis that would warrant that type of revision? If it was to be able to take NSAIDS you may be in for bad news as NSAIDS are not good for any type of WLS.
It could be acid causing the pain. Especially if is just recently started.

had revision from RNY to GS, due to needing treatment for arthritis.
I am about 6 wks out, and starting phase 3 of foods, adding a few more semi-solids... each time I eat, whether its one bite or my full 2 oz, I have started get mid-back pain. I have taken gas-x which to some degree helps - but does not make alleviate the pain. I eat slowly and chew chew chew.
Anyone else have this issue?
I have called my surgeons office who is scheduling a "precautionary" endoscopy, but am still nervous. My hope is that is just gas and nothing more.
This is all new to me, as when i had the RNY 6 years ago... I had no issues whatsoever.
(Note... RNY 4/30/12, revision to GS 6/5/18)
I had my procedure done on July 6, lost 30 pounds probably due to water weight but you're right I don't feel the restriction. I can eat up to 4 oz my pouch is 4mm in size so hopefully this work for me
