UPDATE... Endscopy revealed "severe stenosis".
Hello,
I had a successful VSG in 2014. However, after a couple of years I regained everything. Tomorrow, I am scheduled for a revision go Gastric Bypass. My surgeon has been very candid with me about the potential for less dramatic weight loss, which is ok with me. I just want to know if anyone out there has had similar situations. Did you lose some weight with the revision? I know it will correct my GERD, but I also hope it leads to some loss as well.
Thank you,
Ginnie
I met with Dr. Tiesenga the other day. I wasn't really impressed. I asked for a pamphlet for the Apollo, he and the nurse looked dumbfounded. I didn't feel very confident in the procedure and asked questions like on average what percentage of excess body weight did people lose. He replied that there was a lady that lost over 100lbs.... but that wasn't my question.
anyway, I'm interested in knowing know that you are 2.5 years out.... how did it go for you? was there much followup care with Dr. Tiesenga?
thanks
Thank you for not going straight to a "why are you all so mean" post. Honestly I would say almost NONE of the posts giving advice about stopping gain or stalls or whatever is given out of a mean spirit. My posts personally are written out of a hope that you'll understand the desire to help. Also out of the hope that you won't have to go through all the stuff I put my body through before I learned.
I've had two big regains - one 60 pounds and one around 50/high 40's. (Yes, I am a *really* slow learner!) Losing those regains was hard, especially until I started noticing significant re-loss. Wouldn't want anyone to deal with that for any reason.
You've got a handle on it now and I know you'll keep going! Can't wait to see a post that you're back where you want to be. =)
Hi there. I am scheduled for a revision on 8/20/18. I had the VSG in Mexico in November of 2009. I went from 220 to 126 in less than 6 months (I'm 5'6"). I maintained my weight for about 5 1/2 years. In the last 3 years I slowly started putting on weight. I am now back up to 190. I def can eat more than I used to be able to. I am just curious how any of you have done after a revision. I hear the weight def comes off slower. I am still trying to decide between the Loop DS & traditional DS. My surgeon will also do a partial sleeve during the procedure if mine has stretched out too much. Hope you all are doing well!!
I had a revision because I started having complications with the band and then the sleeve. I would not recommend the band to anyone.
Lap Band: Mexico 2014 (280 lbs)
Sleeve: Mexico 2010 (240 lbs)
RNY and Hiatal Hernia Repair: USA 2018 (210 lbs)
Goal: 160 lbs
I so appreciate your tough love and a little kick in my behind. I really had to reflect on what I was doing and I wasn't doing me any favors by doing what I did by eating just because I can. Yesterday, I was super careful and I saw results. I actually, ate some beans because I needed that full feeling in my bowels, not stomach. That seems to have been the problem more than the mental hunger. Even though beans give me terrible gas, I was craving them.
So today I'm under 200 yeah!!! just slightly though so I will not celebrate too much yet ... I need to be at 190 to be in the clear I feel.
I am so happy you all kicked my butt! I don't think I would have been able to get back on track without you.
:) Thanks!

Hi all,
I am a 58yo female in M Idaho looking for bypass journey buddies.

I was set up to have the DS on AUG 13th, but I may go for the RNY do to my doctor just had spinal surgery and he is saying that he will not be physically capable of performing the DS by my surgery date. I can push the date out and have the DS done, but all of my support from family flying in and papers have been set for my current date and they are very hard to change.
My Surgery is Aug 13th. And I was excited til today. My Surgeon is basically putting it in my hands to choose. He says that the DS would be better for me. But because there may be complications do to the band not easy to remove that he may not be able to put the sleeve part of the DS and he would probably have to do the RNY anyway.
I was mentally prepared for the DS, but now I?m conflicted. I really don?t want to push out my date again.
