actually, if I'm not mistaken, I think John Rabkin is one of the few as well (she said she's contacted him, too...)

My surgeon just submitted more documentation for approval. I called BCBS today, but they said that it was not marked at urgent, so i have to wait the 15 days. If it isn't approved this time, my next step is peer review. I just want this thing out of me

Do you live in California?

I recommend you contact Ara Keshishian, MD in Pasadena, CA for a virtual consult. He's an amazing DS surgeon, and even more importantly, he is one of the few in the U.S. that is skilled enough to do RNY to DS revisions.

I had RnY in 04 and after developing autoimmune issues, I too have regained but I'm also embarressed about seeking info on a revision....

That's why I'm lurking! ? I guess we just need to bite the bullet and take care of ourselves!

Good Luck!!

I was doing research and I want the DS but all the surgeon kept saying its 30 min to do distal vs 4.5 hrs for DS.

I want to be able to lose the weight and keep it off. I have read alot of stories about how the distal is not as great for a conversion from RNY.

Well I sent over info to John Rabkin

Im waiting to hear from the insurance coordinator.

The surgeon approved me for distal after I said I wanted DS.

He also there is a chance I might have to in 1 even up to 3 more times after to fix the distal if there is too much malabsorption. Is that normal he said he has learned over the course of 20+ years how short he needs to go on the limb?

That one guy was 420 at revision from RNY to Distal he got down to 220 but had horrible edema due to not being able to absorb protein.

So he revised the distal and now the guy is at 199 and happy...

IDK

Confused at 5'2 242

Im worried the distal will not work. The failure rate of success seems high and for most

OMG @ Floating port i myself am having revision surgery tomorrow and i have health1st as my insurance carrier not sure why they would deny your situation as im reading it you sound like a approval case in my book i had the RNY in 2009 done laparoscopic and im having a revision called the "Distal Roux-en-Y gastric bypass" i went thur the 6 months to a year criteria excercise, rx weightloss pills, diet as well as the presurgery testing sono's,physc eval cardio testing ... etc submitted to insurance on 8/30/18 and got approval this week. i would contact the insurance and get a copy of a more detailed description of the denial and what is was based on and also compare it to the criteria for the revision in the plan contract/handbook if they have any due to the unique situation of the floating port and if if the denial still stands then what are the guidlines to rectify the floating port .
