- Does anyone know if insurance covers revisions? I need all the information I can get regarding this.
- Thank you- Candice
This makes much more sense. I know several who've developed GERD and had to revise. Glad you can get it taken care of .
Oh, and just for the record. I don't remember that you weren't "ok in the head".
Good luck and I hope you get it all taken care of soon.
I had Gastric sleeve in 2009 at my highest weight ever at 310. I lost a total of 50-60Lbs but within 2 years I got divorced, graduated college, had my third son, started teaching special ed behavior kids, and learned how to cheat the system (chocolate shakes, thin cake or ice cream, etc, basically anything I could down that was sweet and easy to take in) I stopped working out and did all the things wrong. I was lucky enough to get a second chance and had the gastric by pass revision surgery completed in March of 2011 By John Alexander in Dallas TX. The surgery was a great success for a long time,Then came the complications. I started having trouble with hair loss, vitamin issues, and energy level. 5 years later everything seemed to be doing good but I have managed to get myself back up to 205. My lowest weight was 175. I've been having pain in my stomach and started feeling like I was going to get sick every time I ate, so I went and had an endoscopy done and they found that I have a hernia, enlarged opening to my small intestines, a small pouch at the beginning of my small intestines, and I've slightly stretched out my stomach. All in all a revision to the gastric bypass is being done in December. I was wondering if anyone has had a revision surgery of the gastric bypass by just doing another gastric bypass because basically he said that's what he's doing along with fixing the hernia with mesh. I worry about more complications and losing too much weight. Thoughts, advice, experiences?
I have acid reflex . I have not gone under 250 in 11 years. Im ok in the head . Lol. I have bulging disks RA . i was going to do it a year ago but gave myself time and been seeing a nutritionist for about 7 months.
Thanks

You will not lose a lot of weight with a revision, especially if you have a normal BMI. You're body is smart. I had my revision 3 months ago and have only lost about 7 lbs. My BMI is 26. I am definitely not wasting away to nothing (well according to some people I am but I just ignore their comments).
I am from North Fort Worth. I had the sleeve done in 2009 and revised to the bypass in 2013 and now due to complications about to have another bypass revision in December. After bypass I had to do vitamin infusions for a long time, had horrible issues with my bowels for over a year, like uncontrollable issues. The hair loss was bad for a good year or two but after changing my diet to 90% protein it seemed to help slow down the hair loss. I don't regret doing it though. The weight loss fixed other things for me especially my depression. I'd do it all over again even knowing all the issues I went through with it. I'm scared that having a revision surgery will bring all these same issues back.
Are you having GERD or any other physiological difficulties? Is your sleeve itself not functional?
It seems odd that a surgeon would revise you to an RnY just because you gained some weight. You've got a (presumably) working sleeve and that's technically all you need to fight down the regain. Many of us have had far bigger regains than yours and been successful at losing them without additional surgeries.
Is there anything else you are dealing with that could possibly concern a surgeon enough to revise a functional sleeve to an RnY? The RnY is a great surgery, don't get me wrong. Something just doesn't sit right though, at least from what I see in your post.
Revisions are serious things. Honestly it just seems like there must be some detail you've not shared. Can you tell us more?
Hello everyone,
On December of 07 I had my lapband surgery. I did very well for about four years when I encountered slippage. My surgeon gave me the option to have the sleeve and in June of 2011 I had the sleeve done. My starting weight was about 365 when this all started. Recently i have gained 20 pounds with the sleeve. Although I have maintained about 90 pounds off from my original weight I am now 270. MY next option would be the gastric by pass. I am on the calendar for October 10. I am a bit hesitant. I am concerned about leakage etc. Has anyone ever experienced a similar scenario? I have not had any complications with either of my surgeries and I am in overall good health except the 20 pound weight gained. I have been working with a nutritionist for over six months with no improvement.
Thanks,
S
Why don't you try the meds first? You can always do the surgery later if they don't work. I have read about people who had GERD for a while after a sleeve but then it resolved. You can take the PPIs long term. I am on them about 25 years (most before any WLS). Also, make sure that you don't have a hiatal hernia. Than can contribute to GERD and can be fixed. They can recur. Mine was supposedly fixed after my band (for 1000 dollars for each of 6 stitches) and then it came back (which is why they said my band was not so effective).
Good luck.
