Hello!
In April of 2002 I have the VBG procedure done by Dr. Beryl Harberg in Houston TX. He passed away in 2006. Back then the only after care I received was "Don't swallow anything bigger than an M&N, don't eat sausage casings and chew chew chew!!" I went from 274 pounds down to 163 pounds.. slowly went back up to and stayed around 185 for a few years, then up to around 200 for a few years and now 15 years later I'm up to 238 pounds. Now my weight although I hate it isn't bothering me too horribly bad. I mean it is what it is but what is concerning me is that I have not been to a doctor since 2003 and since that time I have had very bad episodes of ulcer attacks, been to the emergency rooms because of them. They give me some green concoction that tastes horrible but stops it and tell me to take certain meds and then they send me home. I have learned over the years that when this happens I can just start chugging water and MOST of the time after about 10 minutes of drinking it goes away.. when it doesn't I feel like I'm dying... I also have a constant full feeling when I eat.. even if it's just a small amount. It feels like it affects the amount of air I can take into my lungs. And last but not least I fell sharp pains, not all the time but here and there right where my VBG should be. Feels like a bee is stinging me. Might happen 40 x a week or 2.. but for the past 4 or so years it's been consistent.. just another thing I deal with..
Has anyone out there had an ulcer with their VBG? Anyone use Dr. Harberg? Anyone have a revision from a VBG?
I have an appointment with Dr. Dexter Turnquest in March. I had a VBG done in 2002 by Dr. Beryl Harberg who passed away in 2006. I'm having pain in that area and have a painful ulcer not to mention weight gain. So I'm going to see Dr. Turnquest to see if there is something going on inside. I Haven't seen a doctor regarding my surgery since 2003. Dr. Turnquest is doing my daughter's surgery the first part of April. He's also done the surgery for one of my co-workers and his wife. I met him when I went with my daughter. He was very nice and my co-workers absolutely LOVE him.
Good luck!!
I was revised from sleeve to bypass.Due to severe Gerd.I have lost another 62 lbs in 1 year.So worth not having Gerd anymore and losing more weight.
If you get denied have your Dr do a Peer to Peer with the insurance. The Dr can make sure it is because of Gerd and get it approved.
My insurance denied it at first too.i still needed to lose more weight.my Dr did a Peer to Peer with insurance company to make them understand is was because of the gerd. They approved it.I had surgery 2016 and have lost another 62 lbs.Need to find the right dr to fight for you.
had revision surgery from sleeve to bypass for severe Gerd.I have no Gerd symtoms.Best decision I ever made.I was able to get off Prilosec after 1 year.
I had the same situation......Had my band removed in 2014....terrible experience with not being able to keep solid food down - band was in basically crystalized and had choked me off. It has taken me to now to be able to get to the point I am ready to go to have the sleeve. Just submitted my paperwork last week. The 6 month wait and all the hoops you have to go through is the worst part. I too wish insurance would just go ahead and cover it without all that. I am also wanting to know how others have done with the sleeve after lapband and if anyone has any regrets from having the sleeve done. I am still a bit nervous about all this!
