insurance approval help

you guys may already know this, but this was news to me. Many insurances won't cover the DS surgery...however in some cases there is a way around this. worked or me and another lady in my surgeons office with no hassle. if they cover wls. ask for the CPT codes they cover. my insurance did not cover the one for DS, however, they do have 3 generic ones for gastic bypass revision. Those are covered (i guess just in case someone has a problem and needs to be fixed). First ask your dr. which code he will use in your authorization letter plus ask what the code says for instance they may give you 43845 (lap DS surgery), then ask your insurance company if its covered then fine. if not ask for all the cpt codes under gastric reduction, bypass etc that they have listed and see if your doctor can use it for you. hope this helps.
