Hello, I am wondering how long you have to wait to revise your surgery? I had v s g 10 months ago and have only lost 53 pounds. I was able to eat a lot early on, even when I exercise and make good choices I don't lose weight, then I make not so good choices, I am stuck in a vicious cycle. I went with the wrong surgery, I need mal-absorption. What has to happen with my sleeve before insurance will cover a revision to r n y or d s? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

So- you say you were able to eat a lot early on with your sleeve. So it sounds like you were not eating measured portions. One of the keys to any WLS is continuously measuring portion. Eventually, with any surgery you can eat a lot. Or if you can't eat a lot, you could always eat less more often. Measured servings will control how much you eat. Malabsorption only helps so much- the rest is up to you.

have you followed up with you medical team? That should be your starting point- to determine if there is something wrong with your sleeve. Your team would also have the best insight on what your insurance may/may not cover when it comes to revising. They become familiar with the ins and outs of various plans-- so they should be able to tell you.

You've gotta find your way out of this "vicious cycle" now, or you'll just be in a vicious cycle with a different surgery.

I have reached out to my medical team as well as new doctors and still no help, very frustrating.

How did your eating disorder assessment go?

What you NEED is to figure out why you sabotaged yourself. Are you working with a therapist to do that?

I didn't sabotage myself I feel out of control since I had this surgery and no one will help me, not my surgeon, therapist, or my primary care doctor. I have been going everywhere to get help, no one will listen, I need help and it is frustrating not to be heard . I wish my doctor would help me like yours did but she will not. Only I know what it is like to be me.

Do you have access to an eating disorder clinic? You said you were going to have an evaluation - how did that go?

The truth is that no revision surgery in the world will fix you feeling out of control. So you've got to get that figured out first.

I finally got my team to listen to me and I am in the process of going to group therapy for my eating disorder, i did not realize how many carbs I was eating and they kept me hungry, I am working on back to low carb, high protein and fluids, and my surgeon wants to see me in a month and we will go from there. They finally heard me. I hope things get better from here.

Would you be kind enough to provide us with more details? How exactly are you out of control? Eating too much? Not consuming enough protein? Not drinking enough fluids? Eating sweets? Not eating at all?

When you eat, do you feel satisfied? Are you eating until you are full? Are you gaining weight?

Most surgeons will do a revision if there is a problem with your VSG & it's deemed a medical necessity. If your VSG is sound and in working order, most surgeons will not do a revision. Has your surgical team taken a look at your VSG to determine all is working well?

Thank you for the kind response, I am now working with my surgeon and he brought me back to basics, I didn't realize how letting carbs back in kept me hungry. I have also been diagnosed with eating disorder not otherwise specified and I am in the process of going to group therapy for that . I thank God for answering my prayers because for the longest time no one would listen to me, but I hope that is over now.
