Revision
Thank you all for listening,
Ramona
You survived what you thought would kill you. Now straighten your crown and go forward like the Queen you are!
I had a sleeve as part of my first WLS and a revision to a RNY pouch in 2010. I had regained 100 lbs and also had horrible reflux even though my revision wasn't for either of those reasons.
I haven't had to take a PPI since about 3 months post-op (my doctor had all patients on PPIs for three months). Totally cured my GERD and I also got a tool to help me lose the excess weight. My sleeve was done in 2002 and I never had any restriction until my revision.
You will do great!

The sleeve is a great surgery and surgeons love it because it is less liability for them. With other procedures there is a lot of follow up and lab work but the sleeve can be set it and forget it, although people with the sleeve can be at risk for some deficiencies and should be followed up.
The problem is most people who have WLS eventually stop complying. It is just a fact. I think I read that the follow up rate after WLS is about 20% after 5 years. Don't quote me on that number but it is high.
BUT, the sleeve can be contraindicated in people who have GERD and in fact the RNY can cure it. At least it has for me. I know many people who had to have a revision to a RNY due to reflux problems. Even with PPIs the reflux can be severe. I took at least 2 a day and many times woke up choking on acid.
