I had RNY in 2007 and lost 210 lbs. I have gained and gaining 40 plus pounds. I know my pouch is not working like it did the first 5 years. I still dump like crazy. However, I never get that full feeling and I am ALWAYS hungry...something is not right. I have BCBSIL and it is covered but I have to go to a blue provider. The blue providers don't do that revision. Can I get some input on your experiences with this procedure and any surgeon recommendations you might have.  Thanks in advance

Here is the list of experienced RNY to DS surgeons:

Dr. Keshishian, located in California

Dr. Rabkin, located in California

Dr. Stewart, located in Texas

Dr. Simper, located in Utah

Dr. Elariny, located in Virginia

Dr. Roslin, located in New York

Dr. Buchwald, located in Minnesota

Of course, the above doctors are in the United States

Dr. Baltasar, located in Spain

Dr. Marchesini, located  in Brazil

Dr. Gagner in Canada and Dr. Greenbaum are also experienced surgeons, but please use caution, and RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!

You are going to have to travel and most likely pay a program fee out of pocket but this is the rest of your life so it's money well spent.

There are two doctors out of the University of Chicago that do DS as well as revisions. Check the U of Chicago Hospital website for their names.  One Is Alveerdy (not sure of spelling) and the other Prachand, I think.

LadyTazz gave you the list.  Those are the ONLY surgeons that you should consider for a RNY to DS revision.  Do not go to the Chicago docs.  They do a virgin DS and probably other, easier, revisions, but not the RNY to DS revision.  This is the most complicated of all revisions and requires a lot of study and proctoring under an experienced doc.  Take this list seriously.

I checked with their office and they do perform RNY to DS revisions.  How is the list above determined?  Is it based on patient reviews or a medical review that anyone can see?  These doctors are not close to many people and some cannot travel out of state to them, what other options are there for those without means to travel?

Thank you,

Mary

There are no Chicago area surgeons that are qualified to do a TRUE RNY to DS.  More than likely you would end up with an ERNY which is the worst of both worlds.  I understand that traveling is not an option for some.  I was lucky in that Buchwald is practically in my backyard.  But, like you, if there had been no revision surgeons here in MN, I would not of had a revision.  I will not put my life in someones hands unless I have solid intel, lol.  A lot of people have gone before us and these are the surgeons that have done the most and have the least complications.  We stress this list because we have seen other insist that they know their surgeon and end up paying the ultimate price with their life.

Honestly, I would of stayed fat with my RNY than have a revision with someone not on that list.  Just my 2cents.

Why do you say that ERNY is the worst of both world? I was actually weighing it against DS. Your 2cents is truly welcomed
