Need some help

I had a successful RNY back in 2002 and lost 200 pounds.  I did well for ten years-- kept it off but I hurt my knee and couldn't walk for almost a year, and in that period of time I gained almost all of it back.  Now I'm disabled and am trying to find out if I can get a gastric band or a revision surgery and if Medicare will pay for it.  Can anyone direct me to where I can find more information about what Medicare will cover?  I spoke with a surgeon and was told that medicare will not pay for revisions so I've got conflicting information.
I feel like this is my last hope, if I can't get a revision I'll probably die.

Yes, Medicare will cover a revision, as long as you qualify for WLS. (BMI over 40, or over 35 with 2 co-morbs.)

If you've regained almost 200 pounds, I strongly urge you to research getting revised to the DS. The DS has the very best long-term, maintained weight-loss stats for patients of any size, but this is especially true for those of us with a BMI greater than 50.

I'm guessing the surgeon you spoke to either isn't a revision specialist or doesn't want to accept what Medicare will pay.

You WILL need a revision specialist if you go with the DS, and you'll probably have to travel---there aren't many surgeons qualified to do this most complicated revision. I'd suggest Rabkin or Keshishian in CA, or Roslin on the East coast.

I am revising from Lapband to RNY and Medicare will cover it.  If there's one thing I've learned, NEVER listen to what people say.  Call your insurance company(ies) directly and get your information.  If you ask 10 people, you'll get 10 different answers and drive yourself nuts.

You'll get that revision and I wish you good health.
