So I spoke to  my surgeon today.  The insurance will cover the lap band removal but he thinks we need to do it in 2 surgeries to be "safe" and I won't be able to have the revision surgery at the same time.  He said it needs a couple of months to heal and that he's seen that is the best way to do it with little to no complications.  Which is good that he's cautious, but sucky that I have to wait!

Sorry to hear you have to have a 2 step procedure for revision.  At least you know you will still get the revision eventually.

Hope the time goes fast for you.

That is disappointing but I always feel there is a reason for things like this when they happen. At least you will still get it and it won't be as painful probably as one big surgery. Wishing you good luck on both!
Band to DS

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

Thanks!  I'm hoping for the best too...glad to have this crapband (good word for it!) out!  Shelli, I hope the insurance pays for the second surgery--I only know they will pay for the removal.  However, my mother--love her!!!--has said if they don't she wants to.  I  was self-pay to begin with, so I feel like I wasted $15,000 and 2 1/2 years of my life.  I'm trying to be positive, but I'm just so disappointed!

I hear you..........I was a self-pay 4 1/2 yrs. ago for the "crapband".........now having a revision to the RNY.  I see my surgeon on the 23rd.........I was hoping to have the removal of the band and the RNY all at the same time.  It will be interesting to see what he says!!  Hang in there..........in time you will be on your way!!

If your insurance covers WLS, you should be able to get a revision.  You still have a lot to lose if your ticker is right.

I would discuss with your surgeon the possibility of doing the revision at the same time once he gets in there and sees the extent of the damage.  I had mine done in one procedure, but I didn't waste much time once I realized the band was making me sick.

Good luck

Phyllis

I was self pay for the crapband too.  Total waste of time and money.  Is it possible to look for a revision specialist and get a second opinion?  My doctor did it all at once and I had every complication a lapband could have (slip, broken apart tubing, port issues, etc).  My revision went great.  I was so thankful to just have one recovery instead of two.  Just a thought. I hope all goes well with your revision!
