I had my Lapband amost a year and a half now, I think, I'd have to check my profile---I did very good initially, even though I had issues with vomiting, and I lost down to what my ticker is now......I was vomiting about once a day from being stuck.  Then I had a week where I eventually couldn't get down water, so I had to go to the emerg. room and get a emerg. unfill because I evidently had something obstructing it.  I eventually was filled back up to where I was, and I have had this amount for about 9 months now, and have gained BACK all but 30 lbs.  I recently have had trouble again with getting stuck, even water is giving me trouble at times. I am sooooooo sick of this game...I would get a revision if I qualified in a heartbeat, but my BMI is only 36.8 currently.  I do still have high blood pressure but that's about it.  My Lapband dr. knows nothing of all the vomiting I've had to do, so that's not in the records.  I'm really in a bad mental place.....I don't want another fill....I'm sick and tired of having to vomit and get stuck.  My Dr. is 5 hours away too. Any words?

Nancy,
I too have had many complications, and suffer massive GERD, I do not enjoy the vomiting...and it puts us bandsters at high risk for slippage. Which you may already be suffering from. I am 5 years post op...and my Dr. thinks i may have Band erosion...that is preventing me from lossing weight.  I do everything right...i take my band very seriously and it is so frustrating that in the past 2 years i have had such a hard time with it.  Being Military I have to see a NEW doctor at every new duty station...and well...since this isnt the doctor i had a year ago...i dont think he takes me as seriously as my last.  So...I am seeking treatment on a MTF which is a Military Hospital. My insurance only knows what the Doctor tells them, so I have decided not to Appeal the decision again...because they flat out told me...you need to weigh 234 lbs for the Gastric Bypass...they didn't even offer any other solutions.

I hate when people assume the patient is doing something wrong...that is NOT always true. The band is much more complicated being just a restrictive procedure.  I have had success with the band...i had a band baby, even.  But...just like the RNY or any other surgery there are complications that can arise.

Talk to your doctor...let him know everything that is going on...as for an endoscopy...because that will show erosion...ask about possible slippage....there are many causes for concern..

good luck!

Hi I was wondering are you having your BAND taken out for your revision ???My Dr said since nothing is wrong with my BAND and my body just WONT lose weight with it they  can leave the band in place and do the BYPASS around the BAND.... Now i have heard of people getting the BAND after the BYPASS when they start gaining weight again.....just wondering if this is something anybody has heard of before.  It sounds good to me in case i start to gain weight i can get a fill and be done with it hopefully.....Oh I'm 15 months out and lost a total of 30 lbs.......Doc says my body is not reacting to the BAND like it should......

Hi,I'm 20mo.out from Lapband and never lost a pound after they put me on food.I just found out I have a fluid problem called lymphedema which explains some of it. Yes they did take the band and port out and repaired a hiatal hernia which Dr. also said was part of the problem. I'm postopday 2 and have all of my burning pain where the port was. I think just the RNY would have had very little pain.I'm having no problem with jello or liquids. Good Luck! Miss Jean
