Has anyone had Hiatal Hernia on or near their pouch
Unfortunatley, I did not lose any weight as I'd hoped I would. 1 year later I'm at or near the same weight - 217 - and I am seeking a revision from the RNY to an extended RNY.
Let me know how you're doing.

I notice that some of these posts are older and I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with resolutions. I had my surgery in December 2009, after which I lost a total of 140 pounds between that date and November 2011. I went through some 'personal tragedies', but still was successful in keeping my weight off until about 2 years ago. In November 2013, I suddenly realized I had gained back about 30 pounds; to this date, I've gained back about 100 pounds. I still do not continue to eat candy; I do eat some chips, etc., but I cannot eat much at one time. As soon as I do eat, I start having stomach discomfort and belching for about 1/2 hour. Following that, about 1 hour later, I am hungry again.
I went to my bariatric surgeon and was basically told to go back to exercising (which, I will admit, stopped in 2011, at the time of the 'tragedies' and I have not gotten back to it) and eating like I did in the beginning. Truthfully, my eating has not changed that much -- I rarely eat fast food . . . the only difference I can see is I do not monitor my protein intake, which I was very careful about before. The surgeon did order an upper GI, which I just had done today -- all I was told was that my "pouch" was still small and did not appear to havew stretched, but the radiologist did think (said he would have to look closer) he saw a hiatal hernia and it appeared as though my pouch emptied "very quickly" upon eating something. When I asked if any of that could cause me to gain back so much weight, he said this was not his area of expertise, and he would report this back to my surgeon.
I am just curious if any others have gone through this and what the findings/resolution/results were. I am so devastated . . . I am back to having no energy, barely able to climb stairs or walk, etc. -- I feel horrible!!! It is truly affecting my life -- my depression has gotten worse, I just feel like a failure . . . I worked so hard for that weight loss and felt so good about myself again . . . now, I no longer want to leave my house!
Any advice, input, etc. would be greatly appreciated!! Please . . .

Hi,
I am sorry to here what you are going thru! Emotionally it drains you. I had the Lap band sone in 2012 lost around 50- 60 lbs first year was great ever since then I have had nothing but complications food getting stuck not being able to eat when I could eat I would overeat excetera. And now getting pains in my stomach and excruciating heartburn and I am also hungry all the time it's an up-and-down battle. I have contacted a new surgeon and which I will be visiting on Monday to set up an appointment for an endoscopy because it is possible that the band has caused a hernia. I was informed that 80% of the patients that have had lap band come back with a hernia and a lot of the surgeons are no longer performing lap band but performing the sleeve procedure the success rate of lap band and complications from it seems rather High research is showing 56% of patients have had complications. Regardless if there is a hernia or not I will have the Lap-Band taken out and have the sleeve procedure done. This is just my perspective from the studying that I've done on the Lap-Band vs. The sleeve procedure.

Hi... this is my first time on this website. I happen to be searching the web for anybody else who had gastric bypass surgery and then developed a hiatal hernia. I've been hospitalized twice in the last 2 months and I'm looking for any information from anyone who can tell me what to do because my family doctor is not knowledgeable about gastric bypass surgery. I have an ulcer and a hiatal hernia on my couch and then gastroenterologist specialist said there's nothing that can be done.
I'm concerned about any possible complications or any symptoms I should be aware of. If anybody knows anything please write me back.
thank you
