lapband and esophageal motility issues

HI - I am almost two years out from my lapband surgery.  I lost about 90 pounds and then started to have some problems mostly I have a constant sore throat but none of the reflux symptoms (regurgitation etc).  My original surgeon just wanted to refill me but I switched surgeons for my aftercare and had a recent UGI  which showed possible trouble with my swallowing although my band and esophagus was in otherwise in good shape. He unfilled me and I have since regained about 30 pounds. I then had a esophageal motility (manometry) test done last Friday which also showed the same thing.      So my question is I am concerned that I may need some type of revision but before that I wanted to know if any of you know anything about esophageal problems with the lapband and what types of non surgical options are there out there to treat this.  I don't have any trouble eating and can eat almost anything.  Thanks..  I haven't spoken to the new surgeon or anyone else since the last test yet but wonder if anyone else knows anything about this..  Should I be talking to a GI person, an ENT?

Sorry to hear you are having these issues but I think only specialists will be able to advise you on this.  I would try to get 2 or 3 opinions (consults) so you can be best informed as to your options.

I would talk with Deb H (she's on my friend list).  She had major esophageal motility issues and can go into detail with you about it.  She had to get unbanded and let her stomach rest.  Also, Ms. Calculator (if you want to ask her) had esophageal motility issues and when all was normal after band removal, she got DS and is doing very well.  I think Deb is looking into the sleeve. Sorry to hear you have those problems.  From what I hear, there is nothing you can do but remove the band.

My lapband was too tight.  I got very sick and the np took all of the saline out of my band. When she did that I began to have esophogeal spasms!  It felt like my chest was about to explode!  I had the slip repair done but still had the spasms until I was healed.
