I am just starting to look into maybe a revision?  I had open rny 4-18-01.  I had lost down to around 170 and now I am up to around 215... I am scared to death about the weight gain.  I can eat anything!!! I have tried several things now... the weight started creeping back on about 3 yrs ago... and it keeps on creeping up... my back is starting to hurt me again (b4 my wls I had really bad back pain)... I am now anemic (don't know if this will hurt for trying to get a revision).  Anyways I was considering calling a local surgeon and checking this out (not my original surgeon... original was with btc and is no longer with them) I do have a different ins carrier than the one I had with my original wls... BTW I think my original surg was proximal... not for sure about that though... Anyways I now have Anthem BCBS PPO Blue Access and was wondering if anyone had any insight... Thanks in advanced Bonnie

I just had a revision on 10/22/07. I had to requlify all over again ( just like the first time). Plus I also had to get an Upper GI & Endoscopy to check my pouch & stoma. They insurance co. whats to see what went wrong with the first surgery. To make sure you were compliant with diet & exersize. Hope this helped some Ciao, Leslie

May I ask what your Upper GI and Endo showed? I followed the rules and didn't loose the weight I thought I should in the very beginning. I hit a plateau at 9 months and contacted everyone, surgeon, nutritionist and everyone said keep doing what you're doing and give it time. I'm not 3 years post op and I'm back up to 245lbs. I don't think the RNY pouch has broken down but I can eat whatever I want. I eat healthy things...I'm ALWAYS hungry though which sucks so it's worse than when I started out pre-op before RNY.

The test showed that my pouch was still small but my stoma had enlarged and the was a quick flow. I was always hungry.

Yes, my pouch is still small as well. But I also had a quick flow my surgeon said that was normal--visit the dietician and check back with him. I swear to you I am more hungry now than before RNY. I feel sick if I don't eat; I'm diabetic and yes i make healthy choices but the pounds aren't coming off. I had 2 car accidents about 6 months ago and I've been on bed rest basically. Two major injuries have caused me not to be able to work out. It sucks. No one wants to have revision surgery. No one goes into WLS thinking if this doesn't work I'll just have another one!  It's a very risky surgery and a revision is even more complicated but I believe in my heart that yes Everyone deserves a second chance.

Have you looked into the RESTORe clinical study?  There are 10 sites throughout the country that are doing the procedure, and depending on how much weight you've gained and how dilated your stoma is, you may qualify for the procedure.  If you want to read about the study, go to http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00394212?recr=open&intr=%22gastric+bypass%22. I'm in the process of finding out if I qualify, and if so, will be having the procedure in Baltimore.  Betsy

You can simply mention having constant stomach pain and your Dr. should send you for a Upper Gi and Endo. I went to my surgeon but your PCP could also write the order for you.  I had a two car accidents--gained a ton of weight--and I'm achy all the time! Please let me know how you make up!
