Where to start with a RNY revision?
I hope some people out there can assist me in what I need.
I had surgery in July 2002 with at 369lbs with a BMI of 53. I dropped down to 280lbs in 9 months and plateau'd for almost 3 years. I herniated a disk in my back 2 years ago and have slowly gained weight since. I am back to 320lbs and a BMI of 43. It's catch 22 for me...I try to exercise and my back goes out and I am down for several weeks only to gain weight.
I've been to my surgeons office to see what my options are but they do not appear that eager to want to help.
My wife and I recently had our first and only child thanks to IVF treatments and I want to be around a long time or her. I am 34 right now and can manage just fine in day to day activities but our baby will become more active and I will get older and I know the weight will really start to take its toll on my back, knees and ankles. (already pretty shot from all those years of football and soccer)
Does anyoe have suggestions on what I need to do to convince my Doctors that this is serious? Anyone have similiar situations that they were successful in geting help?
Thank you for your time.
I recently starting thinking of a revision because of my weight gain. I went to my bariatric surgeon and we discussed it and he recommend a lap band from RnY. After getting on OH again, I found the DS forum and read all about it and what the people had to say and I was hooked. So I told my surgeon I wanted the DS and not lapband. He is referring me to one of the DS specialists down in Delano, California, Dr. Ara Keshishan, to discuss me having a DS this time around. They say becaue diabetes has returned and I still have severe sleep apnea along with now arthritis in my back and legs, that I have a good case to have a revision. It sounds like because of your weight gain and the BMI, you have a case. Decide what you want and go for it. Keep pursuing, find another surgeon if you have to.

This is a pretty common problem for bypass patients, and so disheartening. Have you heard anything about the brand new procedure for this? It is called Stomaphyx and the early testing has been promising, I know one lady told me that she felt like she did right after her surgery and lost like 10 pounds in a week or so.
There is a list floating around of the surgeons that are performing this procedure, and there are a couple of new ones. Let me know if there is information that I can help you with.
