"OPEN Lap-Band revised with a Liproscopic Roux-en-Y

Has anyone had the "OPEN" Lap-Band procedure revised with a liproscopic Roux-en-Y procedure? I have a friend who would like to have this done but his doctor indicated the surgery would have to be done "OPEN" once again.  He doesnt want to go through the open procedure again if he can keep from doing it.  He has another meeting with his doctor on January 6th and would like to kow if he has anyother options before he speeks with the doctor.
