Topic: RE: Hyperparathyroidism

This is a PSA. Parathyroid glands are 4 rice sized glands that sit right behind the thyroid gland. Their sole purpose is to regulate calcium. For an adult around 35 + your calcium should be mid 9s, never 10 or higher. High calcium will ruin your body. It causes extreme fatigue, headaches, irritability, memory issues, bone pain, having to get up at night to pee, and many more. Many doctors ignore a high calcium. We'll jus****ch it or it's not that high. NO! The longer it's high, the more damage it's doing to your body. Oh, forgot kidney stones. And it's not how high it is, it's how long it's been high. Everyone should insist on having a calcium, PTH (Parathyroid hormone), and vit D all drawn on the same blood draw.

My story started 20 yrs ago. A year after my RNY my surgeon sounded the alarm. Ended up at Mayo and was scanned. I had 4 gland hyperplasia. All 4 glands were enlarged. They said, it's not high enough. Watch it. Until last summer. Now have osteoporosis. Sent back to Mayo. The not smart endocrinologist said it was secondary Hyperparathyroidism. Secondary will always have a low calcium. I never had a low calcium. Nothing you can do for secondary as it's caused by things like gastric bypass or kidney disease. Mine was actually primary. Only cure is surgery. I flew from Iowa to Tampa FL to a world renowned clinic. Had surgery and had 3.5 glands removed. I feel better! No more bone pain, peeing at night, horrible headaches, or overwhelming fatigue. If you want to know more go to: parathyroid.com. or contact me! Thanks for reading. This is my soap box.
