Just wanted to see if anyone in the group has had a revision to RNY with a Hiatal Hernia Repair. I dont see much about revisions when I search and would love to get some ideas of what to expect this time around. I know this surgeon is different than my last. He has me doing a two week liquid prior to surgery in order for liver to use all the stored sugar and to reduce inflammation.

People don't post about revisions because they generally fail to lose any weight with them. They lose 20 pounds on the liquid diets and then gain it back. The hiatal hernia repair should eliminate GERD and make life easier.

If your goal is weight loss you will have to follow a low calorie diet to do that. It is a lot harder than after the original surgery. After the initial loss and when you go back to eating solid food again, weigh yourself daily and track your calories taken in. I would recommend you join Weigh****chers that is very different from the old programs. Also read their book, The Shift. Good luck with everything.

I start the liquid phase tomorrow- but so far since dec 2023 I have lost 80 pounds on my own. I am only doing the revision because of the hiatal hernia is 90% of my pouch and he said he will repair that and tighten the pouch hence revision. Then after two years of stable weight loss we will look into repairing my abdomen hernia and tummy skin removal. I know what I did wrong the first time around and this time has been so different Im in a better head space, I'm still nervous and dont like the pre op 2 week pure liquid. This sticks with me the surgeon said not many people get a second chance but your got yours.

I had surgery and its a amazing difference on Aug 19 to now I have lost 28 pounds no GERD no chest pain I am so glad I went through with it.

Surgeon said since now I'm on soft food Do not be alarmed next two week post op visit only about 2 pounds lost due to revision However he forecast me to be about 160 in a year. Surgery I was 230. It was the best decision I made honestly. And He cleared me to swim and work out nothing over 15 pounds and light working and I already dropped two more pounds just from doing that...

I haven't had a revision to RNY with a Hiatal Hernia Repair myself, but I've heard from others that the pre-surgery liquid diet is crucial for reducing liver size and inflammation, which makes the surgery safer and smoother. I wish you the best of luck with your procedure and recovery. Wordle Unlimited

Thank you so much

its weird that this wasnt heard of 13 years ago when I heard my first surgery. They even wanted to put me on gapapetin prior to surgery but I can't take that medicine We tried that for my autoimmune and it was a no go. so different then my first surgery.

Can I ask, what is the reason for revision, and what was the original surgery? I'm guessing you are going from VSG to RNY, and the primary reason is reflux?

I had RNY in 2016 and a RNY revision in 2023 due to regain w/hiatal hernia repair. I also did he liver shrinking diet for 2 weeks before. For me, the recovery pain was nothing compared to the first time, but the fatigue was worse. I had no issues drinking or eating (except food quantity) afterwards like I had the first time. I took it slow and followed orders to the letter. I lost some hair, but nothing compared to the first time. In the last year, I've lost lost 63 pounds (20 or so more to go) so it can be done but you have to get real and change your eating habits or you won't be successful.
