What's on your Wednesday Menu?
My father was active in the KofC for years. When they had fancy events they had these ludicrous costumes with capes, weird hats, and ceremonial swords. My brother still has the sword.
I was never interested in joining something that required a uniform or costume. That leaves out the military, Disney, and the K of C. I might join KFC, if i don't have to dress like colonel Sanders.

My dad was a Knight and worked for them for years after retiring from the Marines. I remember those capes and swords!

Crazy outfits, right? What were they thinking?
My brother was in a frat in college. They did some stupid group things. There was never a day in my life where I was interested in that. After cub scouts, I was done.

Totally crazy. I wonder if they still do that?

The hats and swords were for the fourth degree. I can't remember if my husband ever joined 4h degree, but he did not have a sword or hat. My father did. My funniest memory of 4th degree was at my father's funeral. Two 4th degree members stood guard next to the coffin wearing their uniforms, hats, and swords.
One of my cousins was a nun. She leaned into one of the guards and then was startled when he moved. She thought they were statues.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
G'morning all!
JB - sorry about the gerd. I'm sure you have, but if you haven't, try omeprazole. I hear it does miracles.
For the next 10 days or so I might be posting sporadically. Although JB gets up so early and starts the thread, that I might be able to post right after her because I'll be 6 hours ahead of her. DH is sulking because he is not going. He was supposed to go but work deadlines prevents him from going, and to be fair it's not around the corner, no matter how short of a trip he thinks he can do he will lose at least 5 days. Hence, I'm going with DD. We are meeting up in Frankfurt before the last leg.
QOTD: yes. My mom was a diplomat and I went to plenty of embassy black ties. And when I had my short stint at the Italian consulate I took full advantage of those events. So much fun dressing up. And the funny part is that when I moved here I brought all those gowns with me. They were sitting in a separate closet for about 5 years until I realized there is no black tie event happening in a surf town, so I donated them. DD is very salty about that; she was barely born when I got rid of them, but she thinks she could have used them now.
My meals yesterday:
- Coffee
- Left over buffalo chicken w/legendary chips
- Hb eggs, crunchy edamame, jello
- Chicken skewers + cheese
- E: cardio+weights
Happy hump day!

So cool you got to go to the embassy parties! When my dad was working at the Pentagon, my parents went to one embassy party after another. I still remember the stories and the photos. They kept all the invitations - so fancy.
