Happy Saturday, what's the plan today?

Absolutely. A stroopwaffle emergency now and then is OK. A half dozen stroopwaffle-a-day habit is a different kind of emergency.

Mornin' All!

we're headed down to one of the southern suburbs of Chicago for the day (and we'll possibly stay overnight somewhere). A fourth cousin whom I met through genealogy work (and whom we've met up with several times) discovered another fourth cousin who lives around there somewhere. So the usual DNA cousin "crew" (my dad's second cousin, my third cousin, and the aforementioned 4th cousin whom we already know - all met through DNA testing) will head down there to meet her today. She wanted to meet in a public place (maybe she thinks we're dangerous!) and also didn't want to travel very far. I don't think she had any idea that one of us lives in the Loop (not sure how far that is from where we're going - maybe an hour?), two live in the western suburbs (an hour away for sure), and little ole me coming down from Madison, a three-hour drive. But that's fine. DH and I need a fun break after all this work we've been doing with MIL's estate and apartment.

the "new" (to us) furniture (from MIL's apt) is now in our basement family room, and it is looking a million times better! So of course we now want to recarpet, drywall (not sure what exactly is up on the walls, other than it could look a lot better), have a new ceiling put in (if they can do anything other than ceiling tiles - and maybe they can't), and make the DIY closet in there look better. It definitely looks like a DIY job. Might be nice to drywall the inside of it and put some shelving in there for storage. But maybe later this year. Right now I just need a nice long break from all this.

QOTD: hmmm. Well I'd agree with accordions, but it may be more the type of music they play rather than the instrument per se. Also, screechy violins and terrible bagpipe playing is beyond annoying, although they're fine if the player is a decent musician.

I have no idea on any food that comes after breakfast, since we'll be on the road and in the Chicago area. So:

coffee with half &. half

Ratio or L&F yogurt, Danish rye bread with butter and jam

I'll take a protein shake with me for the road, but other than that...???

have a great day, everyone!

I get email notifications pretty regularly about the DNA matches and just delete them. Maybe I should stop. You're building quite the family circle!

it's fun to meet them (and I've gone as far as Scotland and Sweden to meet some of them), plus if you're into family history, they often have info on lines of the family that you don't. My 2nd and 3rd cousin who live in Chicago and one of the western suburbs, respectively, have been into family history for years - I've learned so much from them. Plus the first time we met one of them brought a photo of the extended family that was taken c. 1940. Each of us recognized just a handful of people in the photo, but between the three of us, we were able to identify almost everyone. ("that's my aunt- but who's that next to her?" "she's my grandmother! And there are her kids - right there, in the front of the photo - and there's my dad!" "oh - that guy is my mom's cousin" etc etc)

Good morning ~ I'm that meme, all the time! Hearing loss is the problem, but so are the mumblers of the world, lol. Great day yesterday all around, a very nice way to start the weekend. Today we are taking our 17 y/o cat to the vet for his check up. Our once very fluffy fat kitty is on several meds, getting even thinner and his self care has gone down hill. His haunches have become matted and he won't let me brush him for more than a minute at a time. We may have to shave those parts :( I can't even imagine but I'm picturing this:

Lots of house stuff to do today and date night tonight. We've been drooling over the menu - can't wait!

QOTD - Nothing is coming to mind... I grew up listening to Polka on the Chet and Marylou show and I have a soft spot for accordions. I think most instruments are amazing in their own way, it's more how you play them that bugs me.

Accountability - 6-8 Hersey's kisses - I lost count. 184.1 today.

b- coffee x 2, keto bagel thin w/light cream cheese, tomatoes and EBB

l - chicken caesar salad w/Bolthouse dressing

d - TBD - eggplant or seafood dish and red wine

No totals totals

Have a great day!!

Sadly that is what happens, my last kitty stopped grooming himself and just kept losing weight. I hope your kitty gets better.

we're having the same issue with our 19-year-old. He's a matted mess and gets angry pretty quickly when we try to groom him - so it's just a few mats at a time. Not sure if it's his age or the fact he's arthritic - or both.
