Congrats for getting employed again, especially because it's a job and a group of people you are excited about.
I had never heard of that trick either. Does it work only with 9? I learned the time table simply because we had daily tests in 3rd grade and if you got a 100 you'd get a mini chocolate from the teacher. That was my only incentive and I aced those daily tests like it was nobody's business.

When I was younger learning the times tables we went on vacation when we were learning 6-9's. I still haven't mastered the times tables for those numbers....

9's were the easiest ones. We didn't learn that finger trick, but we were told if we were multiplying say, 9 by 6, the answer is one less than the number you're multiplying nine by, and the second digit is whatever you have to add the first digit to to make 9. So 9x6 is 54. 11's are easy, too...even if you're not multiplying it by a single digit. 23x11 is 253. 14x11 is 154. Notice the pattern? You separate the two digits you're multiplying 11 by, and the middle digit is the sum of the two end digits.

Just 9s! It's such a weird thing but I thought it was commonplace, but my SIL who is only 5 years younger than me, had never heard of it.

Instead of "lefty loosey righty tighty, I love the Spanish version, "la derecha oprime y la izquierda libera", which literally translates to "the right oppresses and the left liberates."

So so true.
